I think your message kinda gets lost when you are talking about games in which you commit genocide. Lets not take the trash talk in gaming to seriously, saying "wow, I just raped that guy" is no more advocating rape than shooting him in game is advocating murder.

The reason why people use it in that context is that rape is built up as The Worst Thing In The World Ever, and the ultimate act of evil and destructive hatred that any human being could ever commit.

Therefore, when you wish to underscore just how devastatingly you defeated your opponent(s), what better way to demonstrate the overwhelming magnitude of your hyper-violent victory than by comparing it to what society typically refers to as The Worst Thing In The World Ever?


Seriously, if rape wasn't A Special Kind of Evil, gamers would be saying "genocide" or "slaughter" to describe destructive victory.

I don't look down on people who take words like this seriously, but I do think that the fear of a word regardless of the context it's used in is rather ... puritan, and potentially repressive. But when someone says "You're so hot, can I rape you?" or "I'd rape that dude/chick" or even just "... *rapes* ..." like in a joking way, that implies sexual objectification for whoever you're saying it to, and that is pretty upsetting. But non-sexual usage where it's not really aimed at harming anyone - I don't know, a word that is terrifying today could become meaningless tomorrow, not because rape itself becomes meaningless, but it becomes disassociated with its original meaning and the fear that comes with it. I could just be naive here ... but in any case, I still agree people definitely need to watch their mouths with words like these. The hard part is not letting our disgust with those terms get the better of us.

Rape can also mean plunder, violent seizure and despoliation (stealing, forcefully confiscating). Example: "What you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world." "They raped the countryside." It can be used to describe devastation or perversion of something. "You raped my childhood!" And, yes, "Man, we totally raped that team" is a correct use of the word.

To put it simply, people like you have raped the definition of the word "rape."

I agree. It is offensive to say that word so loosely like that online, it would hurt those who have had that terrible thing happen to them.

A much better thing for them to say when kicking the other team’s butt so hard would be, “I owned them so bad!” or “That was not a victory, but a fatality!”

Oh. Bruh. Ther. This is a new one on me. I don't keep up with the slang, so I wasn't aware of this until now. I guess that sometimes ignorance *can* be bliss. Ignorance about the current trends in slang, I mean, not ignorance about rape, but I digress.

I'm not a victim, and I can not even begin to imagine the physical or emotional pain rape victims go through, but I don't think it's a subject to take lightly, especially in *this* context! If I were playing a game with someone, and they said something like *that* to me, I'd probably wind up slugging them. I don't care if they're only joking, I don't believe rape is *anything* to joke about! "Aw, come on! Cantcha take a joke?" Not when it's about a serious subject!

This is very true. I cant stand it when people use the word 'Rape' as a joke. I can most certainly tell you it isnt. Rape can destroy your life. I unfortunatly have witnessed rape, when I was three done by a friends father to my friend, when I was 7 done by a teacher to my (in that time) 14 year old cousin, and last year, when I was 13, done to my best friend (a boy) by a group of older teens. We were walking down an alley when he saw them arrive (that group had always harrased both of us, be it sexually or mentally, in an ocasion they beat us up because both my friend and I tried to protect a girl from being raped by them) and since they didnt see me he made me hide behind some trash cans. I had to hear his screams of pain and the other's laughter. They are already in prison because we finally found enough evidence to put them there. I repeat, RAPE IS NOT A JOKE, NOR IS IT FUNNY. I am dating my best friend and I still see traces of what he suffered, not with me but he flinches when someone else touches him (it is almost unoticable) but is to proud to say anything, RAPE IS MOST DEFINATLY NOT SEXY. I fail to understand why ANYONE would say things like 'I want ot be raped by Goerge Clooney' I dont find it especially offensive, but everytime you make a joke about it, the people who were raped thinks more and more of suicide. Things should change in the wolrd.
