Background: Issei is the eldest son of a samurai and a geisha, as well as the older brother of a younger sister, growing up in the lands of Orienta’s providence, Edu City. His father, being a military hero, filled his head with stories of heroism and adventurers. Growing up around said stories, he trained day in and out to being a samurai much like his father. His skills with double handed katanas in single hands was astounding; it was almost as if nothing could touch him. Training alongside him, with much less than enthusiasm in glory in fighting, was his old childhood with much enthusiasm, Konoka. Their training to be part of the Hamato Army however, were cast in ruin, as they were commoners, not even noticeable to be joined in an army that prided itself in nobility and only viewed the trio as unworthy transcript soldiers. But what really set Issei off was that Ren Okajima, a rival growing up, was chosen as he was selected to wield the Tsunami Blade: a weapon wielded by one of the Heroes of their world, the swordsman known as Hanzo.

But this didn’t deter Issei’s passion to try and help others. And so, he set out with Konoka to the country of Europa to find fortune, as well as to earn money for their village due to having to use most of their costs to provide for the nobles in this time of war. On the way, they were attacked by night bandits and got separated. Issei was all alone, while Konoka was separated from them. He had managed to get to Helmsmann and set himself up as a porcelain adventurer, though waited in the corner for his friends to arrive. Though one day, starving and smelling, he decided to at least try to get food and a bath and took on a job to exterminate rats in the sewers… though he ended up bumping into Alex’s group and almost fighting them for the job reward. However, their fight was postponed as soon as Judases, Giant Roach-like creatures, attacked and attempted to eat them, prompting them to make it back to the surface. In the incident, he was attacked, losing his left arm in the process, though fortune smiled, as Alex’s group bumped into a Shield bearer named Hunk Kozu, and Konoka, who had registered as an Adventurer, along with a blacksmith named Varian who was down for getting parts for his craft, and made their way to safely fortify underground ruins to figure out what was going on. After ‘masking’ their scents using a few downed Judas Chemical scent organs, they came up with a plan to destroy the nest before it had a chance to invade the city and spread all over Europa, which involved Hunk and Ember both to play a pivotal role in it together.

Managing to get through, with Alex and Issei slicing ahead and Ming protecting the rear, as well as Konoka and Alisa healing all parties, they managed to get through the nest. Discovering that not only there were much of the nest and judas, but also the King Judas itself in there, Alex asked Hunk to use all the shield abilities he had to protect them, with Ember, after no longer being hesitant, used her most powerful attack, Fire Pillars. The blast caused the entire nest to go up in flames, as well as cause a few roads and manholes to blow, nearly freaking out everyone, as the Shield Prison move shot them back to the surface like a cannon ball. When they got back on the surface, Hunk was slightly damaged but everyone seemed okay. Alex rushed over to help him out, but blinked to see his wounds healing up.

Though at the moment, a much bigger problem arose, as the Judas King erupted from the ground, seemingly protected by the bodies of the soldiers that sacrificed themselves to protect it, though slightly burned. It noticed the townspeople and was about to eat it until Hunk used one of his moves, Provoke, he managed to get the beast to follow him out of the city, as the others chased after to help him. Alex and Issei managed to damage it on the back, as Ember and Twilight had to ready to deliver the final blow. But Hunk managed to help them by using one of his skills, Shield Prison, to try and capture it, only for it to get cut in half to slow it down, as they delivered the blows, with Hunk managing to use Shield Fissure to destroy the head, ending the reign of the Judas infestation.

The next day, when Issei and Konoka, finally reunited, was a bit hesitant to keep this life up and go back to Orienta, Alex had come by and asked if they’d like to join. He even offered to pay for a prosthetic arm to help Issei out since he lost his in the sewers. Konoka was almost happy to accept, but Issei sternly refused it, saying that this was an eye-opener and that Konoka almost got killed because of his weakness. Though Konoka decided to join the group, though Issei asked why she did so… which earned her rushing into his chest, as she tearfully confessed she wanted to get stronger to help him, as the time separated was enough to reflect that all this time she was dependent on him when she should have helped him more. Seeing this resolve to get stronger and knowing the two were a team, Issei nodded, and stated that he’d complete the rehabilitation in a week rather than months. They even learned that Hunk had joined the group as well, even with Varian as their blacksmith to get them new gear and weapons, in which he not only fitted and attached a Noraxus prosthetic arm for him, but also craft him a new sword known as Sword of Storms, and it’s brother sword, Tiger’s Storm.

Issei was accepted as a Swordsman in Alex’s group as well as the Jupiter Familia. Along the way, he would grow as an Adventurer, as well as a person instead of a statue, as well as coming to blows with the Sword Hero. But during that, he would be appreciated and welcomed by his new and true friends, including Alex of whom he admitted he would serve alongside him, and even starting a relationship with Konoka.

Personality: As a young child, Issei was much more cheerful and even a bit sassy according to his grandfather. He’s also shown to be very naïve, not understanding how to buy drinks. He was also easily frightened, as shown when the bullies looked at him and he was about to run away.

AS a young adult, Issei has shown to be rather mellow and quiet. It’s almost as if nothing fazes him in and out of combat. Not even him losing his arm seemed to faze him at all, while others would scream and fight for their mission limb, he only seemed to groan and grunt from the blood loss. He seems to be very much in control of himself, and is unbothered by others or by Konoka’s cheerful attitude and cluelessness, showcasing great patience which is important for a samurai.

Issei is also shown to be quite studious, in which he openly agreed with Twilight as to how libraries should be only for reading. Likewise, aside from being from Orienta, he’s rather knowledgeable about other kingdoms, such as Noraxus or the floating city of Laputa. However, this is not to say that he isn’t completely humorless, as he is able to joke with Konoka. He even gets carried away or crazy when it comes to hot springs, even drinking hot spring water as well as getting very enthusiastic on hot spring rituals before bathing, getting rather comical in the ‘traditions’.

He is more solemn than his teammates are about the destruction of Lute Village. His advice is to keep moving forward.

Issei later reveals a much more reckless and vindictive side to him previously unseen, when he lets out all of his rage against a merciless enemy that was responsible for the murder of his parents. This is a stark contrast to his usual calm and patience. During the enemy’s execution by his hand, Issei seemed to finally come to terms with his trauma, calmly and swiftly delivering justice for his family, the victims and for himself. Following this, Issei seems to have finally come full circle, being more open with his emotions, particularly his feelings towards Konoka.

He becomes more focused on training and going on missions, admitting to Konoka that he has a hard time expressing his feelings, he expresses this to Alex as well as he sees him better at doing that than he does, and asks for advise on it. He is shown to have trouble with sorting out his romantic feelings for Konoka. Despite this, he does care for her, even if he doesn’t always communicate it well.

He treasures his sister’s flute that she gave him, and is super-protective of it and her.

Wind Magic Skills: Others think he is super quick for a normal human, but in actuality, he’s akin to Wind Magic for his affinity. Though it’s used for defense and mostly offense, and can even use a slash to create a wind shield for defense.

Furious Tiger: The name implies tiger-like clawmark strikes. It can be used with either a sword, shuriken or kunai. If used with Shuriken or Kunai, it is a halestorm of these items striking all at once.

Atomic Slash: A sword technique made from the Horse Cutter Slash that creates a powerful slash attack either used to slice down a large opponent, or send a shockwave of a windblade for a long-range attack.

Final Blade: A barrage of hexagon-designated strikes that slice an opponent in all vital areas of the body. If used with a blunt object, it can cause damage enough to knock the person unconscious and in pain.

Hypersonic Claws – Fury of a 1,000 Tigers: A thousand strikes with both swords, unleashing enough power and speed that it can carve up the area all around them, ensuring victory. The area looks like it was slashed by a blender in the aftermath.

Sword of Acceleration: This is a defensive move as well as offense, as it generates a wall of wind capable of blocking physical objects or attacks. In offense, the blade is actually viberating at such a frequency, it can slice through almost anything.

Funnel Barrier: his only defensive spell, as it forms a barrier of wind around him or his entire group that can last for either moments or more time. His limit is about ten minutes with it.

Swordsman Skills: He excels at the sword and using two as well. He’s deadly and fast with them both. His skills are so good that he can fight off a group of ninjas with only a tea spoon in one hand, while drinking tea with another, standing completely still.

Martial Arts: Issei seems proficient in Hand-to-Hand Combat, holding his own against mosnters and humans whether armed or barehanded.

Hot Spring Knowledge: Strangely, he has a lot of knowledge about hot springs, as his dream is to one day own a hot spring resort.

Cooking: He’s shown to be a whiz at cooking as well, with pasteries like pancakes being his specialty, as well as making tea.

Teamwork: Despite his outward appearance, he’s able to read the plan and situations well with the others. He catches on to Alex’s plans very quickly just by observation if something goes bad.

Musical Talent: As a way of a hobby for himself, Issei practiced to play the flute or Ocarina as a hobby. He’s actually quite good at it, and claims it calms his nerves in times. Konoka says he plays rather beautifully and smiles when he plays, as she says she enjoys this side of him.

Sword of Storms: A sword crafted from the shell remains of a Storm Dragon that Varian had in stock, it is capable of withstanding attacks and dishing out just as much damage. It is said that the fury and power of the Storm Dragon that hatched from it is still in there. So at times when Issei draws its power, a storm somehow comes out in the sky.

Tiger’s Storm: The brother to the Sword of Storms, as embedded in the blade is a jeweled Tiger Star gem in the shape of an eye. The tassle and handle were made of leather from the Dire White Tiger that he slew, so it’s strength and ferocity are added to the blade along with the Storm Dragon metal that made up it’s brother.

Retractable Shuriken (x many): The shuriken that Varian crafted are retractable as most of the time they look like Silver thick cions, but when the button is pushed in the center, they fold out five sharp tiger-like claws.
