Description
Making a stone bench for a game! I don't do many props, so this was great practice. Neither do I do much in ZBrush asides from characters. It's pretty blobby and I can't really nail down the full "sexy hard surface" look so many pros can get in ZBrush. Must practice and find out how.
Thanks for checking it out, and any feedback is always appreciated!

Nicely done! Did you use alphas for all the little details or flat out sculpt them?

Thanks!
Some of the stuff was sculpted (the lower pieces were totally sculpted, haha) and most of the repeated flower patterns were made with a modified stitch brush with a hand painted alpha. And even once those were in place, I made sure to go in and tweak some of them.

looks pretty damn good to me !
question: did u use masks for the details, and then inflate or move?...or did u use projection master with deformation?
answer: for the hardsurface,I would use ClayPolish...that button above Dynamesh...I saw some tutorial in which it explained that if you actually play with the settings(which I never did),you can get some mega crisp or soft edges...If its on default, then its somewhere in the middle. So I would do the hardsurface of the main body first, and THEN do the detail...
dunno..maybe it helps.
PLS reply with how you did the detail...thx

Ah, thanks!
For the details... I guess I'll just summarize my work process!
I started out in 3ds Max and built the basic shapes, which were boxes. I then exported it into ZBrush and made them all separate subtools, then turned on Dynamesh for all of them. So at that point, they were really just boxes with thousands and millions of poly's. I used stuff like the Trim Dynamic brush, Clay brush, Clay Tubes, and Clay Buildup. Also some HPolish and Polish brushes. I didn't mask or use deformation much, and I never tried the ClayPolish button, but that sounds pretty awesome and I'll have to try that sometime!
For the little flower detail things, I just made an alpha and tweaked the default stitch brush until I got something that looked cool.
Thanks a bunch for your awesome feedback!

oh cmon...you deserved it. and try the claypolish thing,I myself tried it tonight and..hmm...I cant get it to work better than is on default, still its an amazing thing for hardsurface ...just do some dynamesh thing, get some clay buildup on the mesh...and redynamesh, and then pres the claypolish....and voila, youre the next pascal blanche.

Haha, I wish I could be!
Thanks for the tip; I'll be making quite a few props in ZBrush, so I'll play around with that. I'm sure you just have to tweak the settings to get something cool (like always).
Also, the crease tool is really sweet for this kind of thing, but it's difficult to make it work right. Have you played with it?

Yeah,I've used it at one point,I mean I was thinking its the best brush ever...it is really cool.
Here is something I did when I discovered the brush:[link]
How I go about it is I use it on default, and after carving(its on Zsub on default) I press Alt and make a parallel line with the one already carved, and like this I define a hardsurface plane, just by doing 2 lines...u will know what I mean when u use it.Also the guy who made the brush was doing really nice, stylized, hair strands.
So,that model that I linked to,almost everything on the legs and armor was made with the crease brush.
Hope I made myself understood....lol

The odd (and nerdy) part is, I DID understand it.
I think I get what you mean! I had a friend show me something like that before, though I think he was using the slash brush to build up forms in the hair. It was pretty awesome.
I checked out the model, too, and it was pretty sweet! Shame the game never reached fruition.
Thanks for the tips!
