just getting started and wanting to piggy-back your render experience. with such render times as this, are you still using Lux thru Reality? my observations of late lead me to think I should be in Poser with SSS. ....your thoughts please....

No, haven't done anything with Lux in a long time.
DAZ3D and Iray - this is where you want to go. It's free and the results can look great.
SSS is just a mechanic in many render engines (including Iray).

thxs for the experience in your answer... very helpful. but my impression as a newbee remains the same as of this writing... the Poser renders just look better, and all those G3 Daz Iray promo's still look like the walking dead...to me, that is.... all the best....

pretty good - im in the same boat as you - learning about Lux. been on Daz for about a month and just got lux and plugin last night. trying a second render, as first one didnt result in anything. this ones taken 4 hours.... and doesnt look nearly as good as yours

It's all about testing and playing with the settings. If you want I'll send you a few pics about how to recreate what I did, you'll see how simple it is. And yes, the renders are quite slow, this one is rendered for like 12 hours.

Here's how the scene looks like [link]
5 simple planes, V4, one reality mesh light, and two cameras
Reality settings:
First the materials. In this case Reality failed to load the specular map, so I had to do it manually for all body parts.

The camera, nothing special. Film Response and Exposure Control you can adjust inside Lux, but if you've tested and know the right properties, you can add them here, and they'll be saved with your scene.

The Output settings are on default. I don't use the GPU acceleration, because for some reason it doesn't work well with my GPU (GTX580), some problem with the drivers probably. This image is rendered with Lux 0.9.

Didn't realize you were a 3D artist as well! Nice work, here! How do you like Lux as a render engine?

More like a 3D enthusiast
Abut Lux, I like it a lot. Being a newbie, it suits me pretty well for now. It produces good results and works very simple, especially for DAZ users (with the Reality plugin). The image here is pretty much all default stuff. It's kind of slow tho. But then again, I don't have a base for comparison (DAZ Studio only). I like how it allows you to change the lights (switch on/off, change the gain, the temperature) during the render. It can also render every light in it's own image, so you can tweak each one individually in Photoshop and then merge them together. It's a cool feature for people like me, who are still learning the basics, it allows you to experiment a lot.
