Dude I feel you. The fact is that something in this series went damn wrong. Despite having a nice plot (even if someone doesn't agree with this), funny randomness and parody, Otaku material (lots of girls, with boobies, panties and the rest), coolness etc. it just didn't manage to become popular. Merchandising sold like shit, and the anime was unexplainably un-followed despite beeing really good. The DVDs themselves sold next to zero. I just don't understand what went so wrong.

I think one of the probs is that it was produced by Gainax. The other is probably the standard school kids with supernatural powers and shit and that ecchi is used too much nowadays. But then you have me who doesn't give much shit about it. If I like it, I watch it... Therefore... I just need to wait one month for my Medaka and Shiranui swimsuit figures and after that I will get Kujira +_+

I don't think the real problem was Gainax, they made good anime in the past, just didn't have that much success in the latest times. Also the whole thing of supernatural powers is a major plot element in just half of the manga, since after that it becomes more psychological and focused on the characters. I think the only arc which is really focused on superpowers is the Abnormal arc, since the Minus arc is way more focused on the characters of Kumagawa and Medaka rather than mere fighting while in the Medaka's Successor Arc and in the Jet Black Bride Arc we see next to no superpower exploitment. And to be fair the ecchi is not that heavy or important compared to other manga or anime; I think it's just the right amount. So you getting the figures!? How much did you spend for those? Ah... Jet Black Bride Arc and the Shiranui Arc where really the best one... Abnormal Arc also good... The pilot arc was a bit meh, but every character needed to be introduced one way or another... Medaka's Successor Arc was more something like a break thing from everything though...
