Description The initial Riot Police presence was no match for the groups of rioters running amok. The smoke and fires are reflected in his helmet on Georgia Street during the 2011 Stanley Cup Riots in Vancouver.

I love love LOVE this shot. Aaaaah, I can't even describe what makes it so good, but as always I'll give it a go.
To me this photo says so much about the world we live in these days... For some reason it makes me think back to the day when I was a child that I realised the world wasn't all cuddly puppy dogs and flowers, but that it can also be cold and brutal and disappointing.
I think because this image is so confronting, the riot shield and weapons is like a kick to the face - 'this is real life' and it isn't always pretty, and it's about to get very very messy.
The grubbiness of the scratched shield contrasts with the reflection in his shiny helmut so well. It's like it's saying the reflection is a shiny unreal version of reality, but the shield speaks of nothing but cold hard truth.
Hmmm, I hope you can see where I'm going with this... but yeah, even if what I just said is gibberish please know that I think this may be one of the best photos I have ever seen in my life.
Once again, I am in awe of your skill.
thank you for sharing your gift with the world.

Wow, were you there?
So many of my friends were out there - I was quite frightened for them.
Nice shot, despite the situation. I love the reflection in his helmet....... how'd you manage to get this shot? lol
Shouldn't they have been out arresting criminals? X(

I was definitely there, covering the events, win or lose. I was up close to the line of cops, right before they rushed forwards
