This is one of a couple dozen whales mostly placed around southern New England as part of a project called The Whale Trail, each painted with a different design. One of my friends told me about the whale in Boston so I decided to check this one out when I was in Newport. It's called Force of Nature and you can plainly see why. The thing that struck me about it, though, is that it's a bit jarring to see a project like this placed in an almost-colonial setting (if you observe the scene in the background).
