Description
So informed me that February was Febrooruary and challenged me to draw some kangaroo for the month. So I thought it would be a good time to draw fanart of a character from a show from my childhood, namely Aussie Roo from "Dinky Di's: Friends on Freedom Frontier."What is Dinky Di's? It was a cartoon from the early 90s, produced by the Australian animation studio Roo Productions. It featured the titular Dinky Di's, a group of anthromorphic animals led by Aussie Roo and Cass Koala, who helped save endangered animals around the world from the villainous Mephisto and his henchmen: Rancid Rat, Henry Hyena, Izzy Iguana and Serpent Sam (yeah, they all had these kinds of names). While it wasn't the best show around, it was fun for me to watch, and some of the visuals were pretty exciting: I especially enjoyed one episode where the Dinky Dis were up against a malevolent AI and its weird-looking robotic minions.
Two big highlights that set the show apart for me, aside from the fact that it used anthro characters, was that it had one of the henchmen, Izzy, eventually defecting to the Dinky Di's after a pep talk by a spirit (Oh yeah, side note: each episode had one of the Dinky Di's getting such a talk from a spirit when they were at their lowest point, and some of them I remember bordered on Eldritch-looking even though they were friendly). The other was that show actually had an ending: the final episode "Little Hippo, Big Bust" has the Dinky Dis finally storming Mephisto's HQ hidden under Mount Kilimanjaro and taking him and his remaining henchmen down.
Sadly the show has fallen into complete obscurity, with many episodes lost and a planned sequel getting canned due to the creator, Mel Bradford, getting screwed over by an accounting firm. I don't even see fanart of the show's characters, either here or anywhere else.
So I feel I need to do just my bit to keep some memory of the show alive with this picture. If you want to learn more about the show, check out the wiki here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinky_Di…
And while you're at it, have a listen to the show's theme song. It's a real banger for me:

And maybe next time I'll draw Cass Koala, eh?
