Now it's getting interesting (in my opinion^^)
Chara died and her SOUL left her body like every other SOUL in Undertale would do. Asriel... well he's crying, like everyone can see... Maybe he's near a breakdown...
But then! Something happend! Chara's SOUL began to split up and turned darker, until a small piece broke away.
This small piece...that's Chara. Everything that is left from her, the will to protect the others, her love and compassion. Compared to the other piece, it's rather small, huh? It got displaced by the bigger, darker part.
And here goes my interpretation: The SOUL is the summary of a persons character, feelings and memories, right? There is some metaphoric phrase we have here at germany ( maybe it also exist everywhere else, but I'm not sure ):
"Negative feelings are heavier then positive feelings"
They weigh more. So when Chara ended it all to cause no harm and hoped to find her peace, just the part with all her positve feelings "could go". The negative, dark ones instead remained. Thats the reason why one part splitted up, caused by her "Alter Ego".
To sum all up: There are two of them. Two Charas The small good one and the bigger bad one (called Dark Chara or Sam).
Well...and that isn't great. You know, what the outcoming is, don't you?
