Description This gecko was my buddy on Magnetic Island. It was colder than it had been in a long time, and I walked into my room to a very loud rustling noise. I pulled out an old parisol and found this little guy living under its protective cover. And by little I mean big.

I admired him for a while and then scooped him up to put him outside. My hostess and friend's mother asked me what I was up to, so I told her, "Well, I caught this gecko in my room and I figured you didn't want him in the house."

"Oh no, love, that must be his home. He lives there!," she said sweetly, "Go ahead and put him back." What an awesome lady. I got to share a room with a big, happy gecko!

The pet shop I once worked in had a lizard tank set up next to the cash register. Customers were always telling us its inhabitant had escaped. We knew it hadn't, so eventually we dealt with this by putting a sign on the tank that read, "Find the lizard!"

The lizard liked to hang out around the light in the top of the tank because it was so nice and warm up there. It would cling to the bulb by its big, flat and rough toes. You know by now what kind of lizard it was... It was a gecko of course!

Wow, what an awesome woman! Letting you keep the gecko in your room. That's just too cool.

And he's such a handsome chap too!

I know, she really was awesome. Gotta love anyone who recognizes a gecko has seniority.

I got one of him smiling but it's kind of dark because I didn't want to use the flash. Maybe I'll mess around in Photoshop for a while and see if I can get anything out of it.

Wow, that's so cool. The Geico Gecko in your room. I guess he's not green because of his environment now though.

Yes, house geckos often morph into Madagascar day geckos when they're inside. Apparently people say they're "worse than cockroaches" in that they poop everywhere. But they eat bugs, so I guess it's whatever you consider the lesser of two evils. In North Queensland, I'd go with the gecko.

I never thought of that aspect of it. I was thinking they would be cute little pets but I guess they all gotta poop. That's why I don't have pets. At all. Lol
