Honestly, It is nice whether or not you have a background.Β  But whatever you decide, go for it!

The problem is, once added, ballpoint ink isn't easy to remove

Well, you could always make some sort of draft on another paper... Though, it is always possible for an idea to not work out on the final piece and unable to erase it.Β  Β But it is a decision to make.Β

I especially love the hair. Do you draw on the basis of a model or do you create the models of your drawings in your imagination.

I draw from live models in figure drawing class, and i use reference pictures.

Your drawings are all very professionally made. You are a brilliant artist.
If you need a template, you can also search in my gallery. But in this case I ask you to tell me.

Could you frisket her, then do drips, splatters, or even play with salt in some water-based color? I've also seen a technique where did Rit dye and an ice cube on a baking wrack is used. I feel like her hair and curves call for a cloudy or velvety background. How cool would that be with an analogous color theme? The background could mimic the shadows on her skin without taking away from the subject. That's my idea.

I know Very well your feeling about background, cause I had same problem mano times: you know that it could exalt the subject volumes or it could add a particular meaning, tell the β€œstory” of the people portrayed.
In this case I imagine a background in a compact light gray with scenery drawn in white lines (horizon line, maybe trees, a river or a lake, mountains... other people of the woods (?) I imagine her like a driad and light gray could give her body more tridimensional effect.

Nice one. However i want to do the background in blue bic (so no grey, i'm sorry). Thank you for your idea!

Maybe for a background I'd say something nature oriented, maybe forested area of some sort, as I feel with any drawing involving open space and nudity, it feels right to align nature with the natural view of the body

For this background, I would draw a mushroom and fungus forest. If it were darker, I would draw hooded figures wearing masks.Β

Bacground depends on what you want to acheive. do you want to put her into and environment? is there something you want to say? if you just want to make her pop I would go with a simple geometric background for example a flat blue rectangle on the right side of the picture with its left edge being in line with her right eye (left as we look at it) I think it would balance the large mass of the hair and provide a dark for the lights to work against.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Strooitje In reply to timkirby [2019-01-28 19:12:38 +0000 UTC]

I thought of a blue background already, i was more thinking along the lines of a starry sky, or a field like in Van Goghs paintings...
It's not exactly clear to me on how you mean the alignment of the rectangle.
