Description I've been using Poser for a number of years but recently been keen to try Daz and the Genesis 3 characters. Both programs seem to have the pros and cons, Daz doesn't seem to have the same morphing tools as Poser which I've come to rely on but it has the better content and can export models better. Poser's FBX export is a waste of time and the Poser Fusion plugin for max just doesn't work as the materials get messed up. With Daz and the g3 characters exporting to 3dMax is alot better, FBX still seems to be weird but the obj seems and fine and the materials alot easier to work with.

Iray seems to be pretty good render engine but would be tempted to switch to Octane.

So this is my first render in Daz, no doubt more to follow.

So where did you end up? DAZ or back to poser?

DAZ, mainly it was due to the content you could get for it but after using it for awhile I now prefer how it works. Poser had a good morphing tool but that was the only thing that I prefer Poser over Daz.

Yea, I started dabbling in Daz, too. I love the characters and the auto fit of the clothing, but the rendering times with iray are way to long. My machines just can't handle it. But I do love the quality of the renders!

You do need to a good graphics card to get the most out of iray and octane. Octane I reckon is faster and the realtime update in the viewport really good.

Although highly unlikely would be great if Poser fully embraced the Daz G3 characters and assets

Octane is so expensive. I also agree it would be nice if poser just embraced G3. Or Daz worked a little harder at making it compatible. I don't understand why DAZ alienates Poser users. They want us to buy their stuff, right?

They make their money from the content so make sense to have a bigger audience.
Guess all the tech behind the software makes it too much work and cost to change how the figures work.
Hopefully they will come to some medium!

I export from Poser into .obj format. Β Generally, I get what I want, but I may have to separately export each figure and combine them in the receiving application...

Your right .obj file is the way to go to export from Poser, and have had some good results. Whats good about Daz and the G3 characters when it's exported, is it's management of materials. With Poser it breaks it into 60 different sub materials while Daz only has 16. Much easier to work with.

I'll have to look again at Daz, when I last explored it, export to .obj didn't seem to meet my needs (or was it import - so long ago?).

I found export to obj the best way. You would think FBX would be but I get some odd results with it.

Wow, I may follow your footsteps.Β  I'm on Poser 11 and have been so far resistant to DAZ and a new learning process. However, the current content is clearly DAZ oriented.Β  Pulling DAZ stuff into Poser has sucked for me.Β  Oy!Β  I've spent so much time getting used to Poser and I sure wish it was the direction!Β

Daz is worth trying, as it's good to know both programs. I still have so much unused content for Poser so won't be abandoning it just yet plus it has great features which Daz hasn't.
Was only in the last year I was using the morph tool for Poser and now can't live without it! I've had to slowly build up a library for Daz, although the program is free it sure can be expensive when you get the content!

Here's hoping that Daz can treat you well, because she looks super, super cute. And that outfit is quite excellent too - can only hope this model might get into more adventures.
