Firefox is way better than IE. You're crazy!
XChat is pretty different to MSN and Yahoo and stuff like that... I do use MSN, Yahoo, and AIM when I have a chance... But I don't have a connection at home and I can't really use them at college. It'll all work out when I get a connection at home. So don't go deleting me just yet
You and a 12 year old girl? o_O Interesting.

No. Please don't think that way.

I don't know if I'm looking forward to my connection so much now Just a bit apprehensive I guess. You might hurt me
You can't mention something like that and expect me not to think about it

Unless I'm lying about what? I try not to spend much of my time thinking about 12 and 14 year old girls in that way, thanks
There's nothing you can do. I'm dead on the inside.

Horray for Linux! I've dabbled with switching a few times, but much of my work-related software only runs on Windows .

That's a great shame. Dual booting is pretty useful, just means getting your drives in order and stuff. Easy enough to do though. What software do you need for work? What do you do?

I actually do have a dual-boot setup:
sda1: fat32 - Mounted as "My Documents" under Windows and /home/ under Linux.
sda2: NTFS - Windows OS and program files
sda3: ReiserFS - Ubuntu Breezy Badger
sda4: Linux swap
Ever since I upgraded my motherboard and video card, though, the Linux drivers have been completely unstable. I'm lazy, so I told Grub to default to Windows after a 1 second timeout. One day I'll install the proprietary Linux Nvidia drivers and put the Grub menu back, but I'm in no rush. Windows works fine for me.
Some of my Windows software:
* Microsoft Visual C++
* Various embedded processor & PLC development kits
* TurboCAD
* Paint Shop Pro
The rest of the time I try to go cross-platform:
* Firefox
* OpenOffice.org
* Inkscape
* Blender
I work as an electrical engineer during the day and do multimedia sofware development in my free time. Most of my engineering programs, such as the embedded development kits, are simply not available for Linux. I'm gradually shifting my programming to cross-platform libraries such as OpenGL and wxWidgets, but still have a while to go. I've also tried switching from PaintShopPro to Gimp, but it is too difficult to use. When I go to draw, I go to draw, not shuffle little floating windows around.

Sounds like a fairly good setup to me. I use the proprietary nVidia drivers in Linux. They help out a lot. I used to have an ATI card and it was a complete pain in the ass to get anything to work in Linux. glxgears got a score of about -25
I'm starting to get sick of using The GIMP too. I'd much prefer it if there was an Inkscape feel to the program instead. It's nice to be able to right click to do everything, but it's a pain to accidentally switch focus to another application by *just* missing the window you're working in
Well, plus I can't draw anyway. I can manage ok in Inkscape for some reason though... I don't know why. Perhaps because I use the shape tools rather than the stupid freehand pencil tool. It sucks with a mouse, and it's not a great deal better with a tablet.

The real secret to Inkscape's power is lies in the path tools. The trick is to create some rough shapes using the rectangles, circles, and freehand pencil tools. Then, once you meld them together with the Path menu's tools, you can fine-tune them in the node editor. The whole process is blazingly fast once you learn the keyboard shortcuts.

I seem to have big problems with the keyboard shortcuts, especially in Inkscape. Something's seriously wrong with my keyboard as of late. I always end up vertically flipping the selected object instead of pasting a new one.

Sticky Ctrl key, then? Actually, most of the Inkscape shortcuts are a single letter. "V," for example, flips things vertically, while "H" flips them horizontally. I think there's some sort of "Keys.svg" with all the details under the help menu.
