Description
This summer I was commissioned to make 13 replica Ghostbuster proton packs for various clients. This is a shot in mid-July with 9 of them on the work bench in various stages of assembly. At one point I had 11 packs going all at once. I had no social life for about 6 weeks there.Thinking about building your own proton pack? I have a tutorial up on how I built the black shell casing for my proton pack. You don't have to vacuumform the shell like I did, you can just make a semi hollow wooden shell, sand the wood grain smooth, then paint with 3-4 layers of black paint (flat black or satin.)

I still have no Idea yet. I was thinking of a reinforced papercraft, although that probably will not go over well.

Paper craft is okay, but I would recommend using 'Foamcore', as that ill give you more rigid walls.

BAh. Just takes patience. IF you can assemble a model car, you can assemble a proton pack. Glue and patience.

Sure you can have a proton pack. Just pop over to GBfans.com, check out all the reference picts from their site, download a couple blueprints from their Pack Plans page, and start building. YAHHH!!!

Ebay is the best place to find a fully built proton pack. Right now (January/February) is a good time to buy there too, as everyone is needing money after the Xmas holiday and selling their costume stuff cheaper than it normally goes for.

Ack, that auction is misleading. The initial image shows a real accurate GBPP , but the other images show the GBPP that is being sold in the auction (and poorly photographed as well.) Very misleading there. I recommend avoiding that auction just because of the misrepresentation.
Keep looking on ebay though, you do find bargains from time to time.

Give ebay a week or two. They will show up. Could be that Halloween is over and the proton pack guys are laying low after the event.

I think you and me are going to be fast friends. haha
I had been making my own model of the proton packs since its alittle tough making them without the right tools and electronics. Budget was short at the time, but I pulled it off in a month.
I did see the ones at the A-kon and its very much like the ones you made. Still, there are others that also made their own and was amazed.
So, yeah I kinda felt pathetic after seeing all that. heheh
Wish I could afford it, but I'll stick with what I have and just keep tuning it up. At least I made a better slime blower, don't see those around too often for some reason.

I think GB2 was not as popular as GB1, hence why the Slime Blower is not made into a prop as much.
Upload picts of your home-built Proton Pack, I wanna see.

Yeah, we're definitely getting ahead start on this project. When I'm done though I'll take pictures for us and put them up right away!

How much do the packs cost ? By the way it's great to see them all together like that. Reminds me of the game in which they build a franchise, Egons workshop lol. Great job and good dedication!

A proton pack from me these days runs $950 plus shipping cost. NOt too many people buy them due to the high cost, but 25+ hours of work adds up in labor cost quick.

950 is not bad at all, especially for that quality : ). I hope you keep on selling them! I might be interested in one soon enough lol

HAhha, being an artist, you can cobble your own GB PRoton Pack from ebay parts for 1/2 the cost one from me would cost. Assemble/Build it yourself and save the cash!!!

When you press one of the buttons does it play the Ghostbuster's theme song?
And does it give you the preternatural ability to dance to it??
"Who you gonna call??"

StudioCreations In reply to MichaelLinkJr [2009-04-29 14:03:26 +0000 UTC]
Alas no, i have not been able to find the time to rig up sound into any of my proton packs. A simple MP3 player with a better operated speaker would do the trick, but have not found the time.
The dance generator field would be worth millions at the upitty dance clubs in the big city.

It's amazing what movies and characters get people to costume. A massive-budget film like Dune gets little attention while people make/buy super-accurate proton packs and *shudder* Rocky Horror Picture Show garb are hunted quite ravenously. I also notice that few people ever go as the main characters of something. Oh, so many great Boba Fetts out there and oh-so-few really good Chewbaccas.

StudioCreations In reply to cptstarlight [2008-10-29 20:48:46 +0000 UTC]
YEah, some movies are just more accessible to a larger audience and therefore you see more of those costumes. Cost is a factor too. Chewie can run into the hundreds of dollars pretty fast, and done right , the thousands.
