Through you, to him, for me
This tragedy that came in three
A simple story where no one wins
About a love which never ends
Where I lie awake and dream of you
Where you blush before him ‘til your cheeks turn blue
Where he peers at you and thinks of me
A process that lasts eternally
A forbidden thought of you and I
Puts you in the middle, and then you cry
To the one whose eyes are locked on me
You stupid girl, you’re so naïve
I’ve been here waiting all along
Trying to tell you that you were wrong
With open arms I stood alone
You walked away and left for home
I told you that you’d have to choose
You went with him; I knew you’d lose

A presence I could scarce ignore
But I forced myself to turn away
And settled for second-best that day

Devoid of a hand to hold
