it's for using the MC textures in a photoshopped picture so if you want to make a rock background you can use the stone as a texture to make it look nicer

You realize that this is basically theft, right?
Taking someone else's work and uploading it as your own for a different purpose.
If people want the textures badly enough, they can pull them directly from the Minecraft.jar.

I don't see how. He's not taking credit for making the textures & it's clearly labeled where it's from. He pulled them from the .jar & made them into textures(600x600) suitable for backgrounds in photoshop etc. each texture is a 3x3 grid of a particular block tiled @ 200pixels/each. I don't see how it's stealing anymore than posting a screenshot of something cool naturally generated in your world or that you made since you're taking blocks supplied by mojang & placed somewhere ingame & uploading it as your art/pic.

This here is taken directly from deviantArt's Copyright Policy:
What is Copyright Infringement?
To simplify this question, copyright infringement occurs when you do certain things with a creative work which someone else produced without first getting the proper permission.
Some examples of copyright infringement (this is only a partial listing) can include:
Placing a photograph or creative work online without proper permission.
Using a creative work commercially.
Adapting a creative work of one medium to another, such as making a book into a movie or a photograph into a painting.
Modifying or editing a creative work without proper permission.
So yes. This is copyright infringement. As is taking screenshots of copyrighted games/film/shows. Though, screenshots are not policed as thoroughly as they should be, but that is deviantArt making other infringements a higher priority.
I was being nice and and giving them a chance to pull it down themselves, not running right off to the Help Desk, because some people just simply do not know these things. As you have demonstrated.

if your case is to be followed then 95% of everything posted in almost any group for anything should be removed which stifles the creative intent of the showing. you're taking the exact literal wording & running with it the same way the RIAA, etc are taking EVERYTHING saying it's stealing if someone else so much as looks @ something you've bought from that company without getting express permission for every single person who will/might see it.
I'm not denying that, following the exact wording of the copyright policy, it could be infringement.
*I'm saying he's not claiming copyright on it as his own creative work.
*He clearly stated where it's from.
*He's not making any money off it, so no commercial gain.
*His only claim is that's it textures are based on MC.
Did you even check it out & see what he did w/ it before jumping on a copyright infringement lynch-wagon?
as I stated last time, they're 200p^2 tiled 3x on a side...which is definitely different than the 16p^2 that the base texture each block is from. you can't even upscale it evenly without distorting it since 16 doesn't divide nicely into 200. as far as I'm seeing it's different enough that it should @ least qualify as fair use. Otherwise you're going to have a very long night reporting every single item on dA that COULD POSSIBLY be considered infringement. I recommend lots of "M" energy drinks or the other 1 w/ the geological 5-pointed astronomical occurrence (so as to avoid Copyright Infringement, wouldn't want to be accused of stealing them for my own creative work, aka this post) & plenty of restroom breaks in-between.

Were you aware that deviantArt stamps a copyright notice on everything uploaded to theirs site? Thus making anything you upload a claim as your own personal property and creation.
Uploading any art to this site is saying you own it. Therefor, copyright infringement, whether intended or otherwise, has been committed. And yes, it is an errant issue here on dA, which is why third party copyright claims can take up to six months to be resolved. I prefer to approach the artist directly, since, as I have previously stated, many people do not realize that they have committed theft, and will remove the incriminating artwork willingly.

ok well just curious then...when will you be removing your "stolen" work?...I see you've used a screenshot of minecraft in 1 of your uploads as well. Found here: [link] ...I'm pretty sure all those Steve pics would qualify as well, following the word of the law as you seem to be doing w/ this work.
& I've seen plenty of uploads here that make it clear they're not claiming copyright & in fact mark the correct copyright regardless of what gets claimed by the site "on your behalf" when you upload it. It seems kinda stupid to be arguing over some minor technicality of copyright infringement like this when there's plenty of worse things going on all over the net not to mention in real life.
By no means am I a lawyer or anything like that but it seems to me there's worthier causes to be fighting than whether or not someone uploading something they thought people would enjoy (& are not claiming copyright of or making money on) is against the law & needs to be taken down.
ps: no I was not aware they did that but that doesn't mean I claim copyright/ownership of anything I post that resembles anyone else's intellectual property unless I specifically claim it as such.

I asked Mojang's, specifically, Jeb's, permission to upload the picture. The only thing Mojang really cares about is not redistributing the things they've made. They don't really care about screenshots of builds.
Whether you claim it or not, unless you have express permission to upload copyrighted material, it is still copyright infringement if you do so.
You know how some people complain about how cops do ID checks in college area bars, claiming that the cops should have better things to do, when really, there is an entire team of law enforcement officers doing just that?
Congratulations. You now rank on scale with them, intellectually.

Congratualations. You have gone from a discussion to namecalling. Good job on that. I'm done talking to you now.

Namecalling would have been "Lol, what a fucking moron."
I, however, compared your intelligence to a group of people who say such things.
