This painting is a tribute to my dog Maggie. A couple days after she died, I had to distract myself so I painted the backyard of my house (yes there is a magnolia tree in my backyard) and the snow and grass gave me the cognitive tools to turn it into a Vincent Van Gogh style painting. I wanted to paint my dog near the grass where the magnolia leaves fall, but I'm not an expert at drawing animals (humans without too much detail is a little difficult too).
