*phew...*finally after about a week of solitude... i am almost done with 3 chapters of this comic... ( 8 pages per-chapter = 24 pages) only a few more pages 2 go until i show this 2 my boss... i hope he likes it...
anyway... i posted the sketch of this page earlier... [link]
this page took me like a whole day 2 do... mainly the building... this is the 1st time that i ever drawn such a wide background & building along with the shadows & renderings ...
from the looks of this i still need 2 learn more though... in some parts especially the small stuff like the windows still look a bit smudgy & crooked if u look at it carefully... lately i have been studying the backgrounds & buildings of the manga 'black cat'... i absolutely love how they did the shadows of the buildings...
i want 2 learn 2 draw & render my backgrounds better...
anyway... this is drawn with pilot DR drawing pen (felt-tip) point size 0.1... unipin 0.8 (4 the panels...) & markers 4 the solid black areas... & if u r wondering i didn't use any screen tones in this page... everything is hand drawn including the cross-hatch effect in the character's hair...
sorry about the crooked lines in the lower left corner of the page there... scanning error... mayb i'll have this re-scanned later...

that drawing style, reminds me of one of the local manga artist at my country.. i didn't remembered the name, but i remember that kind of drawing in manga magazine..

I love Black Cat as well - I should try to incorporate that inking style in my manga

well... like my editor said b4... as long as it goes from left 2 right (or the opposite...) & then up 2 down... the spaces in between the panels must have the same measurements... the vertical spaces must b smaller than the horizontal spaces... (my ratio is 2:5 mm) & make it simple... & avoid 2 much panels...
yeah... the backgrounds & buildings r great & the characters too... & i absolutely love the inking... i have been adapting some of the inking techniques in2 my drawing style... it's good reference...

hey, don't be too hard on yourself! I think the windows of the building came out fine!(although I can see what you mean though, but only because you pointed it out and I had to look).
and may I ask why did you do hand crosshatching in the girl's hair?!? Not that it looks bad or anything (indeed, it looks great!), but wouldn't it have been easier and quicker to do it via photoshop (or whatever program/method you use)????

i am my hardest critique i guess... 4 me it's better that i admit the flaws than 2 have someone else point it out 4 me... it's embarrassing...
i guess i still need a lot of practice... backgrounds r still hard 4 me...
well... 4 the main reason is... i don't have my own computer... another reason is my boss prefer traditionally drawn manuscripts... & 3rdly is because i juz like doing 'em myself... photoshop does makes it easier... but where's the challenge in that...?
i don't like 2 depend 2 much on digital...

...when you say backgrounds, do you mean perspective or objects? (such as creating/depicting wood, fabric, etc..)

well, that is awsome. I want to learn backgrounds too, but I think you have a lot more advantage than me...It's good you want to improve, but just so you know, this looks absolutely perfect as is!
