Description
Perhaps one of the saddest scenes ever created in an animated film: when Littlefoot's mother dies in the great movie "The Land Before Time".It is one of my all times movies, and never fails to get a tear out of me-- half from the actual events in the movie, and half due to nostalgia.
If you have not seen it-- WATCH IT.
This is the only song that really plays during the movie, and it's vocal doesn't kick in until the ending credits.
It's a beautiful song-- a definite tear-jerker, though!

I used a reference for Littlefoot, his mother's expression, and then I referenced their positions in the scene, and eyeballed the background.

Honestly I don't like how some of the newer Land Before Time movies are. It seems as if Littlefoot completely forgot about his mom. There was a point where the series should have either went on differently or ended. Nothing had as much emotion as the first movie and that bothers me.Β
But great art, it's so beautiful....

They went away from the indepth scenes and more emotional. The truth is that they did even cut the first movie with 20 minutes to not hurt the emotional feelings of the young kids being devistated by the story, it was to harsh they felt. Β And i cant blame them! This moment still hurts for me 23 years later!

That little stream flowing between them always gets to me. It took me a long time to figure out why: It's because the stream is a physical metaphor for their separation.Β

It was a bittersweet smile. She loved her son, after all.

Aww I loved the first movie when I was a kid, now I get all emotional over this and the song. Sweet little dinosaur.
The Land Before Time now sure isn't what it used to be. Too bad the entire style of this series changed after the first 3.

The saddest moment in a movie that has captivated many.
The talent of Don Bluth and his 1980s studio artists, and the incredible scores that James Horner and Ralph Burns did, have produced three great animated classics (The Land Before Time, along with An American Tail and All Dogs Go To Heaven). They are among my favorite movies of all time, and will be for as long as I live.
The art is amazing. Nothing more to it.

My favorite childhood film, and you've done it beautifully! The film has never failed to make me tear up since first seeing it 17 years ago.

Thank you! ^u^
Seeing as I'm 17, I'm not sure how long ago it was when I first saw it, but it's been in my memory as far back as I can think
