HollerHowlz - Sencha
@/mako - Ashura
Zincwolf - Warrick
SwordFangs - Mihail
(RP is to be counted for Warrick's offensive Assignment)
The conversation didn't seem to be going quite her way. For some reason, the little clouded caracal expected her friends to believe, and support her theory. All she got from these two...was doubt. A chill fell over her, unaware of the tensing of Warrick's and Ashura's bodies, and she continued blabbing on. "Even if they are real, they must be very dumb and stupid. They must do such a lousy job of capturing cats, if they keep getting out."
She grinned, closing her eyes and lifting her head up high. "I bet I could take on all of them with my paws tied behind my back. It's be pretty easy to fight something that doesn't exist, step on them like a bug, and squish!" A bug infestation, that must be what hunters were. Cockroaches kept capturing empire cats, and rumors started flying around. But Sencha hadn't seen a cockroach either, so maybe they didn't exist?
As Sencha continued on with her ramblings about how imaginary and lazy the hunters were, he began to feel a sense of dread creeping up on him. He'd been on edge the entire time, even before they left, but this was different, this was...heavier. He looked around, but he couldn't see anything suspicious. He chalked it up to his nerves, but he stayed alert regardless.
Ashura flicked Sencha with his tail. "If they're supposedly giant cats, how do we squish them? Aside from Warrick, we're a bit... short." he joked. He desperately wanted to shake this awful feeling, maybe a bit of humor would help.
Warrick glanced around the area they were in with apprehensive green eyes. He wasn't naïve enough to think Hunters weren't real things - hell, the bear attack had taken most of the naivety out of War - but a part of them did wonder how bad they could really, really be. The fate of Fire Empire and Air Empire were enough to drill that home to him.
He'd mostly come along because he was heavily concerned about the two smaller cats. He wasn't about to let them go out alone.
He snorted softly in amusement at Ashura's joke, but he couldn't press the feeling away either.
"I think they're cats like you and me... but we should still be careful. If our mentors can still make us fall on our butts, other cats could to..." he hesitantly cautioned, before he backtracked a little for his own nerves. "I'm sure we'll be alright though"
As if stark contrast to the deafening Ice Empire apprentices, the fabled bounty hunters silently soaked in the darkness. Out of sight, and ear from the youngster's. The Elite Hunter and his revered mate set their eyes on the bunch of young felines like a wolf on a juicy rabbit.
With out speaking a word, his tail swayed ever to the left. A clear single for the caralynx by flushed to his side. Cover me. And with the cover of the night, the darkly draped jaguar advanced rapidly to their hubristic leader, without a warning he aimed powerful blow to her skull.
Moments like these the caralynx was glad to have the partner she did. His elite status meant he had eons of experience, and his quiet demeanour meant it was unlikely they would be heard. All the better to catch the little rabbits in front of them. Rowan never felt more powerful than she did crouched by Mihail's side while out on a hunt. Her emerald eyes watched the younger cats in front of them, flitting between them all to gauge the threat. Her eyes continued to land on the large tiger hybrid. He was the only potential danger she perceived.
She watched the subtle flick of Mihail's tail and nodded just the slightest bit, though she knew he trusted her implicitly and likely was not even looking for her confirmation that she'd seen his signal. She watched as he burst forth from their place of lurking straight towards the group. She stayed as low as she could, darting through the brush and shadows in a circling motion around the group. The moment Mihail needed backup, she would appear from an unexpected direction.
"You're calling me short?" She cried out, ignoring the strange prickling feeling that went up her spine. Almost as if she was being watched, but that had to be just her crazy imagination. No one would be out here, anyways. It was probably...a bird, or something, staring at her murderously. Did they know she had killed some if their kind? Birds intuition, she must guess. "Well, you've never been wrong, Rickle. I don't have a reason to disbelieve you..." Even though I've already been let down by so many cats already.
Her body tensed, ears flicking back. Was that her imagination, or...nothing. It had to be nothing. Sencha shivered, ignoring their current conversation to glance over her shoulder, just to assure herself nothing was there.
There was a flash of tan and cream, and a pain she had never felt slashed across her face and muzzle. She had accidently tripped, or gotten snagged on thorns before, but this was nothing compared the excruciating shock that went through her face, and the force of the blow send her flying. Her back hit something hard, and she coughed up something wet and shiny. She dizzily glanced down at the grass, the black spots hovering around in the corner of her vision, teasing her. Oh. Blood...and had she just spit out a tooth?
The clouded caracal tried to stumble upright, to focus her blurry vision in what had attacked her. It took several blinks, but she could she could make out a large figure, a jaguar, rivaling Warrick's size. No, maybe bigger?
Hatred burned in her soul. How dare he! Was this one of the cats who had taken away Naga, Amaroq, and maybe even her mother? "You-" She choked out, leaning over to cough up some more blood... and another tooth. Oh, that wasn't good. "Steaming pile of horse shit."
Ashura was stunned and leapt back as Mihail downed Sencha. He hadn't even noticed his approach... He both expected and didn't expect something like this to happen, and he froze for a moment, unsure of what to do. He glanced at Warrick for any sort of guidance, but as his paws landed from his backskip, he began to collect his thoughts. Okay.. well.... The jaguar wasn't going to wait on him to come up with a plan. He should've done this before they left.
He thought back to the bit of training he'd had, and took a quick breath. His knowledge was limited, but his instinct immediately told him to avoid the face and paws. He hopped forward and with claws unsheathed, targeted the exposed portion of the jaguar's hind leg.
Warrick immediately swung around, his ears flicking back, half aware something was going to happen a few seconds before it actually did, his nerves shredded. Of course this wasn't enough time to act or even really do anything but turn his head dumbly as he watched Sencha go flying, the looming, unfamiliar figure standing a few pawsteps from where she had been.
Warrick immediately slid into a battle stance, but it was clumsy, showing his youth despite his size. He was torn; Help Sencha, or let Ashura launch headlong into a danger that was already clearly too strong for him if he could hurt Sencha enough to knock her teeth out.
Trying to avoid the nasty, gut churning sense of dejavu that made bile rise of his throat, he pushed the lingering thoughts of shiny white teeth and beady black eyes - of rabbits - as far from his mind as he possibly could before he made a gut, spur of the moment decision.
He snarled, and charged directly at the hunter at his very almost top speed. His aim was to try and make him stagger, or distract him from Ashura's quicker, faster attack. All it might take would be one bite to his spine, to...
Warrick didn't think about that for long.
Sencha would be fine where she was. The danger was here. It had to be.
Although his expression didn't change an inch, Mihail was impressed. Larger and older felines were knocked cold by the jaguar's powerful swing to the skull, but the young ice apprentice was still concious, and still running her mouth. The kid had spunk, and her chutzpah would be prized in the colisuem.
He glanced briefly to the large mutt, but his focus swiftly turned to caracal hybrid lunging at his hind leg and reacted as soon as the apprentice was in reach. With a clawed paw aimed straight in his face. From his periphreal he watched the mutt charging him and braced himself with hidden metal shoulder, if he should get passed his hunting partner.
The still hidden hunter's tail lashed as she watched the scene unfold not a second later. Mihail was bashing in the face of some apprentice and sending them flying. Rowan's eyes stayed with her only a moment before returning to the ensuing battle, ignoring the curses falling from the younger cat. Her muscles bunched as she zeroed in on the large hybrid. Without hesitation, she burst from her hiding spot.
With a mighty yowl, the caralynx used her powerful legs to launch herself at the much larger cat with great force. Claws out, she aimed to latch onto his face and the back of his neck that was exposed. If her teeth could just find purchase in the looser flesh of his neck she would be able to hold onto him and actually prove a useful distraction long enough for them to switch fighting companions. Rowan was confident in her abilities, but she wasn't stupid. Her jaguar mate had a better chance against this mutt in the long run than she did. For now, she'd have to use her size and the speed advantage that afforded her.
Sencha winced, finding it difficult to focus on anything. She wanted to screech out to Ashura to get out of there, because if that jaguar was able to nearly knock her out with one swipe, what would it do to Ashura? They could just run, and leave her here. These were Hunters, right? Unless she had just hit her head on a tree, and was hallucinating, but she doubted it. They surely would be happy to take one of them, so why not her?
Her voice wasn't working, so she couldn't shout out. Sencha blinked tears from her eyes, and lifted her head up to looked at Warrick. Her heart soared as it looked like he had the upper hand, and her head dropped to the side. For a few seconds, her vision went black. She fully expected Warrick to have taken him down. He was such a large and strong cat, but she tensed as an unknown figure jumped from the shadows. She wanted to scream, call out for Warrick, but her voice failed once more.
She tried to fight the darkness, eyes feeling heavy. It wouldn't be so bad...if she faked it, right?
