Description January 17th 42 BC, Morning

He wasn't sure what exactly stirred him from his slumber. Hesitantlg his turquoise cracked open, squinting out the sun trickling through the windows. Glancing around the room the effects of sleep still heavy on him then he remembered...And now he wished he could forget.

He released a heavy sigh, the fire had long burnt out and now the room was completely silent. What would happen to his sister? Even if she made out with her life his heart ached at the ridicule she'd receive. She'd been through enough. Lost in thoughts his gaze fell on human and caralynx that welcomed them. Rowan. He watched her chest rise and fall in a rhythmic pattern for some reason observing the older hybrid gave him a sense of calm. Warmth. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door

A small amount of pressure against her side woke her, though it was released quite quickly after. Her senses began to awaken just in time to catch the end of Mihail's sigh. Ah, so that was the disturbance that woke her. She allowed her eyes to stay closed, humming in content as she curled more into the jaguar at her side. A yawn and some groaning caught her attention and let her know that Gaius was stirring.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and Rowan's eyes flew open. She desperately tried to focus them, but sleep still hung heavy over her. Gaius stumbled over himself getting up, before walking to the door. Rowan lifted her head the slightest bit. She could hear his voice and the voice of whomever had come to the door. It didn't sound like an argument or anything, so Rowan allowed herself to relax a bit. After a moment he returned and smiled at the two cats. He made a 'wait here' gesture before returning to the door. The voices were heard again before they both got quieter and the door was closed. They were talking outside.

Rowan sighed softly and returned her head to the ground. She peeked at Mihail out of the corner of her eye, offering him a small smile. "Good morning" she murmured softly, her voice still heavily coated in grogginess.

Before Mihail could reply his jaws widened letting out a rather undignified yawn. "Mmh." He hummed in response to the older hunter, taking note of her fringe ruffled from sleep. The sight of it making him feel some type of way. Amusement perhaps? But his chest felt fluttery- He then ceased his thoughts his attention turning to the door, he wondered who else could have been visiting.

His thoughts lingered back to the days before. Notably more...Yesterday's events. The human who gave him a roof under his head and prepared meals was dead.  Even if his bond with the man wasn't as close as some of the hunters and their masters, the bearded human wasn't coddling compared  to other humans and at times distant but he was never cruel or abusive to either he or Riina. Not even to Lilac. He'd still feed them the best of meals they could afford and as much freedom he could allow for his pets. Mihail would miss him. And with the him passed Mihail was without a master. Without a home.

He'd already stayed unannounced at Rowan's...It wasnt like he could just ask to live here from now on, right...? Confliction shone in his turquoise eyes as he sank deeper and deeper in his thoughts getting lost in the twisting maze they formed.

Rowan watched Mihail, not expecting a reply, when he suddenly let out a large yawn. A few moments later, she couldn't help herself but to yawn as well. "How rude Mihail, don't you know that yawns are-" she broke off from her sentence, yawning again at the mere mention of the word, "-are contagious" she teased him lightly, wiping the tears that gathered in her eyes from the yawns. She chuckled to herself and let her eyes wander to Mihail. He didn't seem in a joking mood.

She sighed and found herself looking away from the jaguar. She didn't know how to interact with him right now, she wasn't sure what else she could do except for be with him here in this moment. Her head snapped up to look at the door as it opened again and the sound of footsteps made their way back into the room. Gaius appeared again and Rowan found a pang of worry spread through her. Just as he was rounding the corner, she caught sight of his face shifting from being pale and slightly worried to his usual jovial self. Something was very wrong.

"Hello again my loves" he chirped at them. He bent down to their level and reached over to pet Rowan. His eyes shifted to Mihail and Rowan found she couldn't read his expression. He lay a hand on the jaguar's head for a moment and smiled at him. "You two wait here, I'll be back soon and we'll get this all sorted out" he said in a soothing voice, before turning again and leaving through the door. Rowan's ears flicked and she wished she knew what was going on. She turned to Mihail again, concern in her eyes. Did he have the answers?

Mihail hummed at the caralynx's playful jab, still lost in the twirling maze of his thoughts. Sinking deeper he jolted lightly at the soft touch of the hand brushing the top of his head. It was different than his master's worn and calloused hand roughly scratching the top of his head whenever he brought home an empire cat, his throaty laugh echoed through the room. Instead the touch of Rowan's was soft and smooth, gentle.

Turquoise eyes followed him out the door, he began growing curious on who exactly was at the door. Unease began to rise from his gut. With the feeling of eyes on his he turned to meet Rowan's gaze, their eyes meeting for a brief moment before once again the young hunter's eyes fell to the floor. It stayed like that for a few moments. The only sound in the room was silence."Rowan.." Finally, Mihail broke silence. After a pregnant pause he continued, his voice low barely above of a whisper if you listened carefully it might even sounded like it was cracking. "Which is most important.. family..or loyalty."

Rowan watched him as he eventually turned to look back at her. This was probably the first time she'd caught his eyes since he'd come in here. She smiled softly at him and he didn't speak, and she wasn't surprised when his eyes found the floor again. She hadn't really been expecting him to talk to her about anything, really.  She was sure if something was wrong she wasn't likely going to be the first one he'd talk to about anything. They were good friends sure, but she knew there were others closer to him than she was. The thought sent a small pang through her heart, and she shook it off as being unrelated. She averted her eyes as well, only to jump slightly and look back at him again as he spoke her name. She strained her ears towards him to listen, as he was speaking so softly. She swallowed a lump in her throat at the question.

She opened her mouth to answer, before promptly snapping it shut. Her gut told her that Loyalty was more important. When one joined the Hunters, they were sworn to loyalty, blind and unfaltering. To her, oaths like that needed to be upheld at any cost. However, it was easy for her to say that. Her family had never been negatively affected by her loyalty, in fact they were protected by it. She'd only ever lost family to the Empires during the war, deepening her loyalty. She found she couldn't look at him. What had happened to him... to make him ask her such a question.

"Loyalty..." she finally said after a long pause of her own, her voice barely above a whisper. She hated how uncertain her voice sounded. Honestly, she didn't know if that was the right answer, she didn't have any experience choosing between family or loyalty. "I... say that as if I know... but I've never had to make the decision..." she decided to come clean.

"Maybe... it depends on the situation. I don't know..." she concluded honestly, a feeling of dread building up. Was Mihail planning to leave them? Did something happen with Riina or someone that would cause him to abandon the Hunters? She felt a large amount of panic surge through her at the thought, and she found herself looking to Mihail again, despite not being able to meet his eyes. She once again lifted a paw and put it on Mihail's arm, showing her quiet support and not prompting him to speak.

His bright turquoise eyes softened at her appreciating her honesty. That golden jaguar haling from lightning, Zakaskara he came to learn his name, learn to be his own flesh and blood. He kept his distance best he could but eventually he gave in from Pacino's influence. Thinking about the snowie hybrid made his heart clench. He barely knew Zak, talked only a few words. Briefly they'd meet eachother's eyes and with each day he'd see the bags and stress marks upon the elder jaguar deepen but those violet eyes didn't loose hope. Although a jealousy did linger with in Mihail when he saw Riina and Zak talk and laugh there was the other part that appreciated it. Happy that his sister was happy, even if she'd pushed him away he'd never not look out for his baby sister. Even if it hurt if she preferred someone else, as long as she was able to smile Mihail wouldn't get between them.

The elder jaguar was there for her after all. All those days and nights locked up behind bars outside the walls. Miles from Massilia. Now he understood what she felt when she returned and saw he and Alexei together. A feline he bonded to quicker than he'd ever have before and he doubted after. Conjoined at the hip at times, walking down the streets together both in stoic silence. Or them quietly dozing together with clouded leopard hybrid comfortably snug on his back. If she was the blood princess he was her silent knight in shinning armor.

No wonder she felt so betrayed. Anxiety crept up his spine at the thought of Alexei turning her back on him too like Pac. What would he tell her? How did she feel about him not saving his brother. How could Pac expect him to jump in between a match of a empire cat who swore their loyalty to their death and their own leader? Even if he did beat Judas in battle what purpose would it serve? They'd just both be locked in cages. Hadn't he seen what happened to Herne? Maybe things would have been different it had been Riina...No he knows things would have been different if it was Riina. But he didn't hate his brother, or resent him for picking empire life over the city. He respected him.

Mihail swore himself to be a hunter. To protect the friends and family he's made. Even if Cain had been thrown into the cages and Pac turning his back on him, he thought of the lion he came to know as his father. His apprentice hood friend he'd still occasionally talk to, even the lynx that took him in...And of course..He looked at Rowan again who set her paw on his arm, a rush of warmth passed through him at the action and...He smiled. Small as it may be, maybe not even able to notice the expression from far away but...It was a smile nonetheless.

Rowan watched Mihail's expression to see if she could discern his reaction to her words and her honesty. She had said something that could be deemed pretty risky. As a Hunter her automatic response should have been 'loyalty'. She should have said it no questions asked, then and there. But she hadn't done that, and she couldn't tell how Mihail was taking it. His gaze remained the same as ever, though she could tell countless thoughts were racing through his head, though his expression did not shift.

Then he turned and looked at her again. Not only did he look at her, but he smiled. Small though it was, it was there. In that small smile, Rowan felt her insides twist and churn and she couldn't identify what she was feeling. Her heart was racing and she was sure what she was feeling was panic. Oh Gods... Mihail was going to leave. And it was going to be her fault for not firmly confirming to him that loyalty to the Hunters was more important. How would she deal with that? Mihail was her closest friend she didn't want to lose him... she couldn't lose him. She wasn't really sure what overtook her, but the next moment she was frantically spewing words at the jaguar.

"Mihail I... I don't really know what I'm talking about. As a Hunter I suppose I have to say that Loyalty is the most important thing, and I do think to a degree that I mostly agree with that statement. I just don't want to be the reason you do something because I've made an uninformed statement or something of the sort and..." she searched her mind, trying to clearly articulate what she wanted to say and how she had come to this conclusion from him only smiling at her. "What I mean is... well ok I don't really know what I'm getting at here but... I mean if you're questioning your loyalty to the Hunters or something I think you should really think it through more because I would really miss y-... I MEAN... the Hunters would really be at a loss if you went anywhere. Well okay I would miss you too that's true..." she rambled, not really even sure what she was saying anymore. "I don't know what I, or they, would do if you were gone y'know? You're just... you're special Mihail and you can't just walk out of my life because I think I would be so lost without you around and I enjoy your company immensely and you would leave such an impossible space to fill if you weren't in my life..." she had since dispensed with the cover story that she was speaking on behalf of the Hunters. She thought maybe this once she could be a little selfish.

She took a couple of deep breaths after her rant, shaking her head at herself and laughing slightly. “Oh Gods… I don’t even know if that’s why you were asking… I just panicked for a moment thinking you were asking which was more important so you could decide if you were leaving or not” she tried to explain, feeling rather stupid again. She sighed and looked at the jaguar again, desperately trying to convey her thoughts clearly through some emotion he could maybe see in her eyes. She smiled sadly at him. “I can’t imagine my life without you Mihail…”

Just then, Gaius came back into the house and confidently came strolling back into the room. With every step closer he took, Rowan began to feel the weight of her words crashing back down on her. Oh Gods… oh GODS what had she just said? How could she have let herself say such embarrassingly mushy garbage? The man once again kneeled down near the two cats and smiled.

“Come my darlings, let’s go get this all sorted out” he said in a soothing voice. He then retreated back towards the door and gestured for them to follow him. Rowan wasted not a second and got out from under the blanket and rushed towards the door. Before rounding the corner, she looked back at Mihail and blushed deeply, feeling enormously embarrassed at her outburst of sappy emotions. This was going to be a long day.

Mihail's smile fell into one of light bewilderment at the caralynx's features grew anxious. With a slightly perked brow he silently observed her trying to choose her words. Wait. She thought he was leaving? Was...It really that concerning when he'd smile? As she continued with her flushed rambled spiel his heart began to pick up in beats and an obnoxious lump began forming in his throat. The young hunter never realized...How much she cared for him and over the year they've known each other so much has happened. He cared for her too. Even if she wasn't apart of his "clique" she held an equal position to them.

She didn't want him to leave. And neither did he. He didn't want to loose her too, not her. He searched for words but his mind drew a blank. How could he respond to something like this, he was a jaguar of a few words. Everything dumped on him now like this, it was all happening so fast yet it was like it was in slow motion. The gravity of situation didn't even fully set in to the hunter. After a pregnant pause Mihail finally released the breath he'd unknowingly holding and opened his mouth to reply but he didn't have to. The opening door caught his attention first, the voice of Rowan's master at this moment was like claws on a stone.

And just like that the small hunter burst from her position to the man's side, his eyes catching her flushed face which made his heart twitch. Slowly he rose himself, unsure if that really just happened. Turquoise eyes briefly glanced at the caralynx before settling everywhere else but. Did that really just happen?
