A little backstory:

Li was born on a pirate ship, and he's more of a seafaring man than anything else. Growing up, he took part in numerous raids and activities you might expect from a pirate. He mostly maintained the rigging on the ship, and is good at climbing things. He went in and out of prison a few times due to the whole pirate thing, and basically lived the life out on the water. Until one day, when his ship was crossing down south of Xihyba, a terrible storm blew up. Li went up to try and gather the sail in, but something slammed into him at the top of the mast. He lost grip, and fell. The boat was at just the right angle for him to end up clipping the side of the boat before ending up in the sea. The rest of the crew searched desperately for him throughout the night, but it was too dark and too stormy to see anything. By the time the morning came around, they had given up hope for their lost crewmember.

Luckily, it wasn't the end of the story for Li. He was close enough to land that Li could wash up on shore alive. Unluckily, he had a wound on his chest and was full of salt-water, which isn't a nice thing if you've ever experienced it. He'd also been hit under the chin by the edge of the ship, but that wasn't so bad. He was also in Xihyba.

If you don't know what Xihyba is like, Go to Minecraft, create a new world and set it to amplified. Then imagine it ten time crazier than that. Heck, "Xihyba" literally translates to "Crazy". It's a nightmare, even the trees don't know what's going on. And if someone walks in a straight line, they end up going in circles. They also have voids underneath, which are often lined with radioactive materials which also reverse the effects of gravity for reasons unknown. The Zeonians call this sort of energy "Void" and some even have it. Like Li. He'd known he had that Upu since he was the only person capable of holding the Void stuff without any adverse effects. Void also reacts badly to electricity, so Lightning storms in Xihyba can kill from striking a hill a mile away. In Xiyba, it is common knowledge to never ever sleep in contact with the ground. Many choose to sleep in trees, some curl up in highly grassy patches, other use hammocks, but they never go on the ground if they can help it.

Li knew this too, and quickly adapted. His climbing prowess helped him a lot in his situation, and he hoped he could make his way out. Unfortunately, no one has ever gotten out of Xihyba on foot, and those who leave do so by befriending one of the giant birds, pterodactyls of dragons there. Li had no experience with large creatures, and is quite frankly scared of them. There isn't really a lot of food in Xihyba either. Li has no experience with long range weapons and the best he could do was throw his torch at a flock of birds or pterodactyls and hope it stuns one long enough for him to catch it. This failed a lot so he was often starving for days at a time. He slowly grew weaker as he tried to get out of the place, finally giving up and accepting he won't be getting out and instead going to focus on staying alive for as long as possible. Still reading? One was waiting for him up on the cliff side, hoping to knock him off to the ground below and grab an easy meal. It sneaked up beside him and pecked at his hand, dislodging it and making him fall. He dropped 300 feet through a small hole in the ground, to have his fall broken by some trees. It didn't stop the breaking of almost every bone in his body. Li knew at that moment he was completely and utterly fucked. At that point he just gave up, closed his eyes and waited to die.

Naea and Louke come in at this point. Naea and Rewen have their own little place in Xihyba that they often port to to get some alone time. Naea decided to take Louke along so they could get to know one another better and catch up on life. What luck it is that Li fell right into this little place. Louke found him first, and screamed over it, pussy. Naea considered leaving him there, since he was a stranger and his prospects didn't look too good anyway, but she soon turned that decision around. She and Louke nursed him until he could be moved back to their home. In that time, Li sort of fell in love with Naea, and though Naea just brushed it off as more male attention, she gradually grew a bit interested too. The current relationship between them is unknown, but Louke suspects something going on behind the scenes.

Li's pet emo looking bird has been his companion for most of his life. It was the only one of his crew to not give up on Li after he fell overboard, and went out to search for him when the others gave up. It helped lead him to shore and stayed with him all throughout Li's adventures in Xihyba, despite danger of being eaten out of desperation. A nice little friend.
