Description 4 x 4 feet
Oil on canvas
September 2005

"finished" painting -- finished because I need to go back to school and can't carry such a huge canvas with me. but I am pleased with as far as I got. Experimenting with how much of the canvas I fill with drapery, and have as little environment around it as possible. The result makes the fabric look much more abstract, and confusing in ways that I need to work out. This painting portrays a thin wood frame with two wood rods stretching from one side of the frame to the other, and lots of pieces of muted colored chiffon hung over the dowels. Initially inspired by the colors in spring rain showers -- grays, chartreuse, etc. -- the composition began to look like a map to me, the center big green piece reminds me of a continent, specifically Africa's tip. So I brought in fabric that was parchment colored -- peaches, golds -- to surround the "landforms". Through this window frame and fabric you can see a bit of the fence in my backyard, the lawn, and trees behind. I'm explaining all this because I don't think it's painted quite well enough to tell what's going on in the painting. I still like it though Reminds me of Ireland.

It does indeed look like a real shot of an open window. I was looking for this exact representation and I found it thanks to you. What a wonderful piece you did.
