He likes it when I sing,
when I swing my legs from my seat up high,
beam down at the world,
and hum my happiness just for him.
He likes that other people can see me there
but know that I belong to him.
I just like to see him smile.
He doesn’t let me down often,
but that’s all right.
The bars are so shiny;
when the sun comes up, the color of them is like liquid gold.
I like to see that, too.
My wings have been bound up for a while now.
It would break his heart to see me fly away.
But he can’t have me falling, either.
That’s what the cage is for.
He calls me “love” and pets my hair,
and he smiles at me from outside.
I feel so, so pretty like this.
And I don’t want to feel anything else.

Yeesh, that's one messed up individual. Older and wiser, funny how sometimes one may get that way even in a day. I hope Cupid is happier, now that zie's wiser.

Oh yeah, that's what zie does. Often in very indirect ways. Often very subtly. Sometimes just by existing nearby! But that's Cupid's place in the world: making sure there's love, trying to make help people find the one(s) they need. Some of those jobs end up being very instrumental to a person's life and character. Sometimes it's more of a feature than a focus. The golden arrows do come into play a lot of the time, though unfortunately, zie's not usually there for the epiphany of "omg I'm in love." But pretty much everything zie does, unrelated though it might seem, zie does for the sake of someone's love life.

With your Cupid's ideas of love, I'm a little worried of the kinds of relationships towards which zie might be guiding people.
Makes me think of Franken Fran (one of my favorite manga ever), who loved people with all of her frankenstein-y heart and did her best to help, brilliant surgeon and general medical miracle worker that she was, but... her ideas of what was best for people or her understanding of what people were asking for usually lead to disastrous results.

Cupid's idea of what zie can handle and what's best for others are two totally separate things. Zie recognizes abuse as unhealthy and not good for humans. Zie just also knows that there's not really anything zir lovers can do that could permanently hurt zir, so it's a different case. Zie wouldn't make a choice like that for someone else.

mmm, if you say so. I mean, wouldn't Zie know that being the abuser isn't healthy either? With abuse there can be two main scenarios. One? they start out as a decent person and slowly spiral into abusive behavior because they don't even realize what they are doing. Such a person might well end up dealing with serious guilt and such, after realizing what they've done. The second scenario is the person is purposefully malicious or feels entitled to do what they like. Encouraging that kind of behavior would probably make them even worse >_> And after Cupid's had zir fill and moved on, that monster would turn onto their next victim >_> ...

Hmm, that is something to think about (for me, that is). Like I said, though, zie's gotten a lot better through the years! Since leaving Olympus, zie's had to do a lot of learning about love and all its very complicated inner workings. That's very likey one of the lessons zie learned. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! For reals.
