Even if there's more you could've done, I think you've done it wonderfully so far. The perspective, detail on the bridge and the sunlight have been done really well; you've composed it so that it really leads your eye into the main focus -great work on that. I still need to study composition and apply it to my works.
Aside from that... I can't think of much to critique about it (since 'advanced critique encouraged' is marked at the top of this comment box). Perhaps a little more lighter colour, but not too much, on the hills. Also, while the tree is nice, it seems to just be alone; perhaps if it was taken out or others added (but not too many, in case it ruins the wonderful way in which the viewer's eye is led up the path) it wouldn't stand out so much. As is, it's not bad; just something that could be improved.
Hope that helps!

It does help, actually. The hills were something that have popped out at me before, and I think that's always a danger when using filters on layers -- the layers can look a bit too obvious, and that's what seems to be wrong with the hills. They just don't blend into the background right.
I'm glad you like the composition. The tree was actually added to keep the composition more interesting, as a completely symmetrical layout can be boring sometimes. I think that by the time the title and the footer were added to the cover, it helped the composition a lot. Speaking of which, it crossed my mind that I should post the "real" cover sometime. The publishers actually joked around, calling it "the yellow brick road." XD

I just think it's so cool that you've actually done the cover for a published book; I think I skimmed over that detail before when reading the description for the image, but you've really brought it to mind (in a good way, not a gloating one, so don't worry ) in your last comment.
That is such a great achievement!
Yes, true; it does help break up any complete symmetry, which can be good. And as you said, when you add a title and footer, that can change and improve the composition.
Hehe; the publishers actually said that? XD That's so cool.
