Description
*EDIT* okay, posting again since the 1st time nothing showed upugggggggggggggh, where to begin.
my friend Cakes [link] drew this long ago, he said he wanted me to take a shot at colouring it, i said sure.
1st off, im not proud of this. ive never spent this much time on a CG. this works ure looking at was about 5 hours. but ive coloured him fully about, i would say 6 times. i dont know what is wrong with me. i cant get this to look the way i want it to. the drawing still looks great, but i cant find how to add more life to it.
i look at this as a failure. not only as an unpleasent image, but also the fact i took so fucking long and made my friend wait so long.
i think ive had a good run for never taking an art class before, but i also think its time i reconsider.
*edit* gah, just now i realized something, the reason the lighting on the floor looks stupid is cause i made it so the light of the blade isnt strong enough to reach the lower parts of the body, but its strong enough to illuminate the floor. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

You know what I think? I think that, regardless of the picture's faults, it has a certain charm to it... A certain something that makes it still seem very cool. I'm going to fave this, I think.

if you took the lighting off the floor it would look better, but i guess you already know that.

The shadows in the cloths are well placed, as well as the light reflecting off his cloths. Nice detail in face too, although if you put a little more white into the glow parts they'll look even brighter. Righteous work.

I think this came out really cool. A lot better than the version I was doing. More dramatic. I like the folds on the pants. And the hair turned out great (considering there weren't any lines in the hair). And I like the glowing leaves. They kinda look like smoldeing ash.
The shadow under his right cheek (right by his nose) bothers me. I colored over it in PS and I think it looks better without. I would've like to have seen a more gradual fade of the orange light on his left leg instead of it just ending halfway. A fade, or bringing that light all the way to his knee and having everything under the knee in shadow and then highlight the front of the shoe in the orange light to bring it down near the floor (so that the floor lighting makes sense). And I'd also suggest darkening the inside of the coat so it seperates more from his leg.
This is not a failure. I think it's great, and you got more experience, so definitely not a failure. Thanks for coloring this for me. And you know if you want me to color anything, just email.

hey thanks man,
i agree with you about the shadows and the dradual light. i was trying something different with a 50/50 light and dark thing. but i may go back and try some ways to make things look right, im still not satisfied with some effects. but you are right, wether i like this or not, ive still learned alot. thanks man.

woah, kick ass colors here. The shadows and stark lights really help give the sword that glowing look. The only odd thing is that there are alot of shadows on the left side of his face... but that seems to be the part closest to the blade. Small thing really, and the light being on his right side auctaly helps the composistion a good bit.
Still, it's a great piece.

Kind of reminds me of Timothy from Earthfal (over at the stone of adventure, Lightfoot's site)

This pic is awesome how can you not be proud of it? You did a awesome job! You don't need to go to art school your art is great. If anything I need to go. I also have a hard time getting pictures to look the way I have in my head. My drawing of Shadow as a human took me 5 hours to color. I'm very slow at drawing and even slower at coloring so don't think you took a long time. You did a great job on this and I think it is something to be proud of!

The lighting is very good. However it seems to be on the wrong side of his face, given the source. If it were more to his right (our left) then it would cast the right shadow as you have portrayed on his face and on the ground. But still better than I could ever do.
