I used to have a few pair of slings like that, they were great because the strap
slid over my heel comfortably and did not 'crowd my feet'.
I used to shop at payless shoes, several hundred pair over the years.
Only once a young, obviously new girl, approached me and asked if she could help.
I said 'I need this in 12W'. She cupped her hand over her mouth to avoid a giggle
and then got a hook to bring down the shoes that I wanted from the top shelf.
Other than that, I never had any trouble or funny looks at payless.
I miss wearing shoes sometimes....and panty hose & tights.
