We should be happy that you have finally escaped this prison of torment.

You have been prepared for this trip for some time, but we were not prepared to say goodbye.

Words cannot provide comfort to you and yours during this stressful and sad time. Nothing I nor anyone can type will help to allay the anguish you're feeling.
However, the sting of pain and the torment of your loved one's suffering is now over, and it's time to heal after their agonizing struggle. Your loved one has traveled their last journey, has passed beyond the bounds of this existence, and has ventured outside of what we understand as our travails through a life filled with joy, anguish, sorrows, accomplishments, and what at the time we think is the unknown. Now your loved one has the ultimate in understanding, for it's hoped they now are able to grasp the purity of comprehension of the Universe and all its boundless wonder.
Take whatever time you need to heal. Having worked in the funerary and supporting medical industries I'm quite familiar with providing comfort to people struggling to understand their emotions. I'd strongly but gently suggest you step away from that which is familiar and allow yourself an adequate amount of time to deal with what's happened.
