Description
Still working on things.Changes so far:
Body proportions are more closely matched. Longer shins, straighter thighs.
Torso is a closer match, slightly wider hips, narrow waist.
Face proportions are closer, the distance between the eyes-nose-mouth is very close. Jaw line is getting there. Overall head shape is close.
This skin is one I used previously in version 4-5. I wanted to make my own, but its proving harder than expected. However, I have made major changes to this skin. I removed a ton of blemishes in the skin, and almost totally reworked the legs (which you can't see here.)
I did not try to match her feet. OG Marie does not have human feet. The chest is still petite, to my liking. I dialed up my TDS DFC morph in this one for kicks just to see how performed.
This doesn't mean I am ditching the previous Marie. Not at all, I adore her.

This time I started with FaceGen, and used the resulting morph as a base for further changes. I super imposed a 3d Marie from elsewhere in Daz and Hexagon and worked from there. Hexagon is a nightmare though with all the crashes. I can work up to a certain point and it gives that error. It wont even save or export once that error hits. Even when I strip all the textures out before hand. Extremely frustrating. So I have to save constantly to avoid losing work. Sometime CTRL+Z a few times will reverse it to a point it can save, but that works very rarely.
The biggest difference between her and the real Marie is their bums. I cannot match that little rump no matter how hard I try, LOL! The problem is it deforms too much. It might look ok in the default T pose, but deforms horribly when she sits or moves. Even now she can get a bit of deforming in certain poses. So I may still need to fix some things.
But I can't express how wonderful the London V4 skin texture is. It is gorgeous, and matches her so well. Even though I altered it a lot removing all the blemishes and shaving marks. Just about any other texture I tried really didn't look right, even the last texture I used, based on Belle 6, looked weird.

well, she's looking a lot closer.
I've tried earlier versions of thoes facegens with very little luck. Have they improved them. I've seen and been looking at the one in the Daz Store myself.
I have a few people that I would like to use it on.

I can't really say how Facegen compares to previous versions. I got it after they started calling the Daz version "FaceGen Artist." I don't know if it has updated since then.
It can do decent textures, I used it for the Obama and Putin pics I made. I used the texture FaceGen gave me in the "A WIP" pic of Marie. Its not too bad, but it is washed out a bit, and the limbs are very dark for some reason. The morph it gave was in the ballpark. I think Marie's face is just a bit toonish for the software to work with. But in general, it always gets the nose wrong on most people. It has some cool tools built in to play with the face before creating a morph. You can either use sliders, or take the mouse and directly move the parts of the face mesh, almost like Hexagon. The thing I have noticed that FG gets wrong most often is faces tend to be fatter than they should be.
I used the features in Gacegen to morph Marie's face a bit before exporting to Daz. And then I did more from there.
They have a free demo of FG Artist, so you can play with it. It brands a "FG" on the forehead. However, with your skill, you may be able to erase them from the texture. It is also on the morph, but you may be able to use Hexagon to smooth them out. At any rate, you can test FG and see if it is working any better.
I will note FG works better with jpg. A png will likely crash it. I was able to use 4000x4000 px jpgs. Also, I turned off the eyebrow opacity maps when I made the render I wanted to plug into FG, that helps a lot. Of course that's not possible with real people. But it did a great job with her makeup. When I made my last version of Marie, I used textures from FG to help with her makeup (though I didn't use the morph.) So there are some FG textures in version 8.
I bought the HeadShop One Click thing from Daz, it came out to like $24 after discounts at the time. I'm not seeing much out of it. You almost certainly wont get a texture you can use. Its buggy, and I honestly don't know how Daz let it on the store with those issues. The forum is full of people who can't even get it to work. I haven't tried real people with it, but it failed miserably with my attempt at Marie.

Oh my....well I just bought it. I'll have to give it a try and see. I kinda have a feeling that people didn't read the pdf that came with it. I'll see. If I can't get it to work, I'll just ask for a refund and return.

It seems very particular about your Daz file structure. But I didn't have any issues with that.
It is also buggy on the side profile option. If you use the side profile, do not backtrack or load a new pic after your first one. The side pic distorts the head shape for me, so it wasn't very usable.

so, not worth the hassle? Should I return it?

You may get better results than I did. I only tried it with my pic of Marie. Since you have it, you may as well try it out and see.
