After I made this post, my BIOS screen on start up disappeared again, go figure. But the PC boots OK and runs fine, I just don't see the Asus screen. Everything is blank until Windows pops up.
This is actually how it has been for quite a long time, I was just hoping nothing would go wrong.
I had a problem last year but I got it working again. This time that wasn't fixing it.
Its tough because these parts are all dead ends. I have old DDR3 and all that, so I'd need to replace that on top of CPU and motherboard.
At least RAM isn't as outrageously priced as other parts are.
I was hoping to wait a bit longer before building again.

When you buy a new storage drives for your PC look to have lots of extra storage.
Good practice is to have a 1-2Gb SSD for your front end work (assets you need now, and all the render programs you use.) Then have 2 or more 1-2Gb SSDs to save backups of everything. Lastly have a hefty 2+Gb HDD for all images and assets to be backed up on. A Red or Black Western Digital HDD, or a Seagate Barracuda HDD are good choices for a hard drive back-up and can sustain a LOT of reading/writing.
As for the SSDs. They are more expensive, but samsung Evo will be the way to go for you. The extra 20-$40 they cost, will save you down the road. They can read/write almost twice as much data as the western digital ones, which means much longer lifespans.

Yeah I have several drives, it is kind of a mess. I have 1tb ssd on OS with my base Daz install, but a lot of my assets are on a 2nd drive that is 4tb hdd Seagate. So my library is spread across those two.
Until recently I used to have an external for the 2nd library, but its speed was getting on my nerves, and it had to be woke up all the time. I still have that drive and it has that data, though out of date.
I got another 4tb external for backing up stuff, but I forgot to switch it over. It was still backing up the external I didn't use.
So that's what I am doing now. I'm running the backup, it is taking a long time because of how much data I have.
What I want to do is put my library back together so it is one place. My library is a bit of a mess, but I will try to get it all on the 4tb Seagate.

The question is what part failed. If it was the motherboard or CPU then a new build replaces them. But could it have been related to the SSD or HDD, or the power supply? Those things I plan on keeping, I can't replace it all. These are newer parts compared to the Z97, about 3 years at most.
I'm curious how you do your backups. Do you have Windows do it or another program?

It is a nasty issue. I actually haven't had a BIOS screen on start up for 2 years. I just hoped I would not have a problem. I figured if I tried to get it back it would just disappear again.
And in fact it has. After getting my PC back up yesterday I saw today my BIOS screen is gone again. At least things are working for now.

I've never had an event like this. I had a GPU fail, which had a clear cause (lightning).
I have some backups, but they are out of date. I changed drives and forgot to adjust my backup settings to run on the new drive.
