Due in large part to a misdiagnosed and then mis-treated disease, my body has changed from a very fit physique to an obese and sedentary body. I gained 120 lbs, doubling my weight, over the course of 14 years. I've learned in the last 3 months that this was primarily due to the development of a neurological disease called narcolepsy, which not only affects sleep, but also appetite and the rate of the metabolism for some with the illness.
Our society is so terribly cruel to overweight and obese women, in particular. I have had to struggle to perceive my own beauty, and the gorgeous sexuality of my body, when no one else seemed to be able to see it - not even my partner.
So thank you for taking and posting this lovely and powerful photograph. And thank you so VERY much to the woman who sought you out for it. I do hope that she's aware of this display of her photograph, and checks out comments once in awhile. She in particular, by being able to see the beauty and sensuality in her own body, has powerfully assured me of the voluptuous beauty of my own. She has had the strength and creativity and soul-force to come confidently forward in her rounded generousity -even though at present, our own culture is almost completely blind to her - and my - beauty.

It's nice to see something that isn't a size zero model posing to make everybody drool over her, in some form or another.
I think that it was brave and outstanding, that this woman could be confident enough to come to you and say, "Take my picture. But...I want to be undressed, because I think I am beautiful."
Because really, she must feel that way inside to take all of her clothing off for a camera, which they say ADDS weight, and smile. Even slightly. And on the contrary to an earlier comment on this piece, I do think there is something outstanding about this. None of the flaws were edited out. And that in itself speaks volumes. Gorgeous photograph of a beautiful woman with enough courage to step out of the boundaries in an art world that is ruled by thin women.

I am still in awe of this womans courage. She seemed so at ease being naked in front of the camera, I think there is probably a lesson there for all of us.

Never stop working with that diverse range of models. There is so much you can do when those opportunities present themselves. And so much more to people who HAVE more to them, be it weight or personality. There is a lot more to being beautiful then being thin. This woman knows it

Your well-written thoughts echo mine. So many women who look this way later in life for one reason or another become too self-conscious to even remotely consider posing nude...and it's sad because beauty is more than just a shapely body.
TalkingDrum has done a masterful job with this shot. Kudos to both model and photographer for an excellent job. As said above - NEVER stop working with a variety of models.

Nothing "happened" as such. The model came round for a shoot which lasted a couple of hours. I had never seen her before or since so although as a photographer it's it's a fairly intimate process, it's not a long time to get to know someone.

What I love about this photo is that she looks very soft, and her facial expression is great. Just proves that no one is perfect and if you really want to find beauty you don't have to look far. I think this is a very bold and powerful image, not because she is a large model but because she looks proud and she looks like she posed in a way that was comforable for her.

But it would have to be a couples photo shoot, since my boyfriend is the only reason i'd be in London.
We'd make for some good photos I think, haha, I am a bit overweight, and he is really tall and underweight.

Y'know what... I don't find anything outstanding about this photo. The lighting isn't extraordinary, the pose, composition doesn't lend to a whole load of impact... But I think this is one of the few nudes of a large woman that doesn't immediately make me think "cheap porn" or "omg this is crap, where's the toilet? I think I'm going to throw up."
I'm not an advocate of large models for nude photography. Generally they don't meet the mold for most concepts. However, as I suppose the concept is obviously "big and beautiful", you did a pretty good job about not making this look like a crappy snapshot of a larger woman.

I wouldn't really say the concept is "big and beautiful", it's about people, big, small, young, old, pretty and ugly. I'd photograph pictures of anybody but unfortunatley it tends to be young pretty women that come up to the studio. Here was an opportunity to photograph someone different.

I'll let you in on something... photographing people of any physical appearance usually has an underlying concept of beauty manifesting itself in different ways; different physical traits.
