Tiny question - how did you get so close to the meditating monks? Did you have to ask them first? It's an exquisite shot too - congrats on the dd!

Thanks. The shot was taken at annual festival at the monastary which is open to the public. It had already been arranged with the organiser of the festival for me to document the event as part of a project on Cambodian refugees that I'm involved with and this monastery has a lot of significance for the South East Asian community. I'm not that close to these monks because I'm using a long lens (80-400mm). This monk wouldn't have known he was actually being photographed from a distance. What I do remember from this part of the ceremony was that everyone was completely silent and I felt very conscious of the sound of my camera's shutter making such a loud click every time I took a picture.

Ah, that would be a little awkward! It's worth it though, especially since you were able to get the picture from far away. I remember looking at the piece and thinking, "If I was that monk, that expression would totally be my attempt to look serene and not laugh at the same time."
