This is really good, and the use of the colours in the scarf makes a real difference. I absolute love the choice of model here. It is so very rare to see artistic nudes of people who fall outside of the western idea of beauty (you know what I am referring to I think), especially images that are taken of people whose ethnic background is that of any 'emerging nation'.
Unfortunately the influence of British colonisation made large differences to the culture of India. The Victorian Brits transformed India from a pagan nation of people who worshiped nature, and venerated sex and the human form, to one that STILL has more in common with Victorian England than it does with its past, treating simple nudity and all sexual issues as 'dirty'.
I have seen documentaries of rural women in India who are completely unable to relate to their own bodies, and have no idea that it is supposed to feel good for THEM. They are far more like Vatican I Roman Catholics or Russian Orthodox from the 1800s, than like Hindus (who supposedly consider sex a sacrament).
Today's residents of India are almost all utterly unaware of what their past was like, and how much it was transformed when their land was looted. Most women live lives barely above the level of slavery.
Inside of India images of nude women are treated as risque (are usually pornographic, and rarely done by choice). India still has open sex slavery, and women are still treated as property. Virginity is a NECESSITY for a bride, and sex outside of marriage is forbidden (if you are female). It is like stepping back in time for a westerner.
Sorry this goes on a bit...but I mention all this because it is WHY it is so rare to see any kind of tasteful nudity of women from that phenotype, and from many others where the cultures have the same sorts of problems.
Seeing this is (to me) a very good sign, even if the model lives outside of India.

i colud just go on an on but i do agree that you're right about the cultural thing by the brits!
The worst part is that all there is no one who can challenge these religious zealots to search their past for their true identity!
Anyway some progress could be the pink 'chaddi' incedent when people sent pink under wears to the guys who were protesting valentines day by calling it (and hence love) against indian culture or something and beating up kids who were together!

Thanks for your long and insightful comment. I feel very priviledged to have had the opportunity to photograph this wonderful model. What you say about her background is entirely correct and yet she was totally at ease with her body. Although she was brought up in Chicago she is now back living in the Punjab. She explained to me that in her community it is not even possible for her to be seen conversing with a male in public outside of her own immediate family.
