i think it has more to do with not wanting to understand as opposed to not able though.
most people just see something and think "EEW GROSS!!" without even trying to look into it because it bends the reality they live in, in a direction they don't recognize.
close mindedness is just another form of stupidity and ignorance.

and its really the only way to explain things most often.
i've TRIED to explain similar things to my GF. some things just can't be, and others just go right over her head because she refuses to understand.
so just saying "its a *insert tag here* thing" is really the only way to go most often
