Description 111031-A-VB845-009

U.S. Army Soldiers from the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division
pull security during a foot patrol to Mullayan, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, Oct. 31,
2011. The Soldiers were patrolling to a village in Mullayan to clear compounds of confirmed
Improvised Explosive Devices. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Kristina Truluck/Released)

This was my first mission out with 4-4 Cav. It was also my first air assault mission.
This mission taught me the values of semper gumby - always flexible. You don't need this,
but you'll always need that. Accept help when it's offered, otherwise you'll fall seven feet back
down the waddi. I went through hell and back with those boys and I'd gladly do it again.

Schweet.Β  So you're saying I might know what I'm doing with my camera?
That's weird...maybe DA is telling you to look at anime?

Oh yeah I would definitely say you know what you are doing!! Not sure why it went to anime, i can't stand it fairly sure i probably have a few bad files on my computer again.. but seeing the stupid endpoint program the school has on the macs keeps shutting down and not reopening to update or even run.. sucks… can't even uninstall and reinstall either because its a school laptop :/

Ewww....school/work macs are the worst.Β  One of my work ones loves to reset to three years ago and rendering my main programs completely useless.Β

Its actually not that bad, the school Im at has a computer program that all students are issued a computer and its never more than 2 years old. If the student leaves the school and doesn't pay to keep the computer and its been used for more than one semester its not given to another student its sold/re-bought by the company that made it so they can get new ones.. All the computers in the labs are designed that if you put anything on them file wise in 24 hours its deleted unless you put it on the server so the labs stay pretty good and useful, servers on the other hand like to crash when people use them to put everything on them and not just final projects needing to be turned in.. But half my government computers were totally worthless and crap…

Wow , there's actually a green tree and some plants in the picture . I was beginning to think Afghanistan only grew rocks and sand . I can't imagine how tough you guys "and gals" had it over there . Thanks , and for sharing your pictures too .

There's a surprising amount of greenery out there!Β  Especially after the flood season in spring.Β
All that in the background is marijuana, though.Β  =/

Ha , that would just be hell on earth for some of my former coworkers . All that weed and they couldn't smoke it . Drug testing , security ... bla, bla, bla at work . No desire myself , now if those were coffee trees .

And coffee...my pockets would be loaded.Β  That's one thing I cannot live without.Β

Hey!!!

I`d love to see the image with colours tweaked just a little bit more for the contrast and drama. Have you tried cropping the image (showing the expressions on their faces) for added impact?

I`m not pro at all, just interested in war photography(seen tons of pictures by master Nachtwey and NOOR agency. I love when pictures are full of emotions.

Haha, thanks! That's definitely one of my goals when I look through the viewfinder. I see photography as a visual form of storytelling. Glad to see it's shining through!

The horizon ended up in the middle, but the whole still works well as a unit.
