Personality:

Steady, calm, reliable. For such a young horse Shackleton has matured into an astounding horse to work with. He is an old soul, calm where is year mates are worked up, reliable when expected to be unpredictable. All in all he is a surprising horse and in the best possible way. He is a touch slow to pick new things up however. He takes lots of repetition and breaking tasks down into small steps to help him understand what is being asked. However once he does learn something it sicks and he rarely needs it repeated. Hopefully with a patient teacher and lots of support we think that steady training and his steady personality will make him a wonderful young stallion to work with.

Unlike a lot of colts his age, he does not seem overly interested in mares. Nor does he seem to mind other stallions, and is much more like a gelding than anything. In many ways he seems rather blank personality wise, with little making him stand out compared to his stable mates other than his looks.

Under saddle so far he is well behaved. He has only started to really enter more regular training now that his growth has leveled out, but he is a hard worker and puts in consistent efforts when being asked for behaviors. He is a slow learner, but his temperament cannot be faulted and he has lovely smooth movements that make his lack of fire forgivable. He has a gloriously smooth w/t/c and excellent natural balance. His real shining gait is his loose walk with excellent swing and good length to his contact with the bit. His trot is a tad less exciting with good smooth action but little of the flash and fire so desired in modern dressage horses. His canter is like riding on a cloud though, and is beautifully balanced without feeling at all like he is pulling forward.
