Description
*[[ Etching. À la poupée technique used. Light colored pencil on the top. Never could be a purist with anything. ]]*Recently my loving pet after seventeen years, Choo Choo, passed away. She was found to have cancer and we didn't want her to suffer anymore. It feels so odd to not have her curl up on my lap as I work on projects.
This art piece was modeled after my kitty about 6-8 months ago. So in honor of my Midnight Choo Choo I present "Connect"

Hello mex-X,
Been awhile since I've done printmaking, I had a pretty awesome instructor. A lot of patience, luckily I am big on tedious detailing. For this, it was being patient enough to to do several steps of aquatinting. I used Black marker to mask the areas I didn't want exposed to the acid and then I'd do it 20 times. Cleaning the copper plate and then reapplying the black marker (as well as the step of adding the aquatint). Tis the only advice I can think of at the moment: "Falling in love with tedious detailing and bajillion step techniques"

Printmaking is a lot of fun! Maybe there is a studio near by where you live that might be able to help. Either that or it might be worth signing up at a community college that offers it.

Really nice how you made this. I suppose your cat meant a lot to you. Losing that cat must've felt like ripping your own arm.......

It's very odd having someone be with you since childhood..and then suddenly they are gone. She was one of those cats that found me and decided to keep me. I'm just glad I was able to give her the best home possible.
Thank you for the comment.

My cat was put to sleep because of a cancer too. It was a few years back, but I still miss him.
It's a beautiful picture, subtle, with nice colors and meaning.

Very nice work. I love the subtle contrast between the two cats. Also the hint of the fish in water. Absolutely beautiful. I know first hand how hard it is to let go of pets. One of the most painful things I've been through. Thanks for the favorite. Hope you don't mind me "watching" you now.

What a touching piece. And not just that, but a physically beautiful one as well. I'm positive that Choo Choo is honoured to have such a tribute. What pet who has ever known the love of an owner wouldn't?
And the technique used is fabulous. I could find myself studying this piece for days on end, drinking in every detail--they're soft and delicate but at the same time very striking against the subject matter. I find it highly inspiring and uplifting, even if it is in a bittersweet way.
My deepest condolences to you.

I am glad that that piece feels more uplifting (tis what I think of when I remember Choo Choo). I miss her ;_;. Sometimes it's odd to see pictures in my camera of choo choo and how she was then and know she isn't around any more.

I'm always sad to hear about the loss of a loved pet... you definitely have my sympathy.
This is a very pretty and inventive commemorative piece, too. I'm astounded at the visions you create, like the background cloud making its way into the shape of fish. Very good work!

Very lovely piece of art! I love it how strong the green is on the cats and how there are those really lightly coloured fish on the background making a nice contrast. Very good work!
Am sorry for your loss. It's always so hard to say goobdyes to your dear animalfriends.
