What is Seniority?
Seniority has been a cornerstone of DeviantArt since its early years, given to deviants who have made their mark in one way or another—in many cases it was given to deviants who were recognizable contributors within their respective communities, in some cases it was given out of gratitude to former volunteers and staff members, and in a few cases it came tied with the Deviousness Award.
Regardless of the reason, Seniority has been a means of recognizing outstanding deviants for their efforts, and over the course of 19 years, less than two thousand deviants have been granted Seniority. Those deviants who have received Seniority can be instantly recognized by the medal icon that appears next to their username.

What Makes a Senior Member?
In the past, the criteria for what made a deviant eligible for Seniority was never publicly defined. Part of the reason for that is because there isn't one singular way to have a notable positive impact on the community, but in the interest of providing transparency to the community as we move forward together into the future, here are some of the factors that will be taken into consideration when evaluating a deviant's eligibility to receive Seniority.

Potential recipients should be:

A member of DeviantArt for a minimum of 3 years.

Consistently active in the community for a minimum of two years preceding nomination.

A positive contributor to their respective community and/or the community at large.

Active beyond replying on their own deviations and posts.

Constructive when providing feedback about the site, positive or negative.

How often is Seniority granted and how are the recipients chosen?
Five community members will be selected on a quarterly basis to receive Seniority, in January, April, July, and October. Additional Seniority announcements may occur in the case of special occasions, at the discretion of the team.
A committee of several DeviantArt team members from a variety of departments are involved in the process of sorting through nominations and ensuring that potential recipients are eligible according to the above-mentioned criteria. In addition to the team members on the committee, three current Senior Members or Community Volunteers will be selected by a representative from the committee to be involved in the selection process each quarter.

How can I suggest a deviant for Seniority?
If you know of a deviant who is a positive contributor to the community who fits the criteria mentioned in this journal, you can suggest them by filling out this form .
Please note that the number of times a deviant is suggested does not impact their chances of receiving Seniority—all nominations, regardless of frequency, will be reviewed and held to the same standards.
