I honestly feel like people support Ian Flynn just because of his fan fiction back ground and how he's "one of us" (a sonic fan.) Now, don't get me wrong, I like fan fiction and there are some really good fan fiction writers out there.But how the hell can you tell me that someone who wrote a crossover fan fiction of teletubbies and sonic deserves to suddenly be head writer. I find it a little bit odd how Ian just suddenly shot his way up to head writer position, and how people will praise his work even to this day but hate on Ken Penders because of a lawsuit claim he made. I'm not gonna lie, it's starting to scare me how people feel that way about creativity, as it seems their giving no respect to original creators works.
Now I'm not talking about people like GMV who are more down the line and see the 2 sides of the coin, but more of those who here one bad thing or criticism about Ian and are going to go to war. Singapore sling from the ASO forums, looking at your crazy ass.
Not making this to cause too much hate, but I am curious, would you guys be supportive of Ian Flynn still if he came in like Penders did? If he wasn't a fan boy or fan fiction writer?

I usually wouldn't care if he was a fan fiction writer.
But IΒ do care about the quality and content of hisΒ material from those fan fiction years though.

Yeeup. Because he's just that good. One of the best Sonic writers I've ever seen, bar none. Only SatAM and Fleetway come close.

Well I didn't know nor cared when I firstΒ readΒ the comic and so my first impression (with the as I latter should find out Pender and Boller era) was really negativ from the art with I didn't like (the earlier issues had the SatAm designs that I never was a fan of and latter comics of this era that I saw were to me just ugly and the humanization of all non Sega girls looked atrocious) so because of that didn't I bother with the comic for the at least next 2 years until I saw some latter issues from Ian's time on YouTube and actually enjoyed Β them so this is were my reasoning for as to why I like Ian more than any of the previous writers I just like his story's and characterizations more.
That doesn't mean he is a perfect writer and especially his over use of the he/she/it is a traitor/mind-controlled Β plot point was rather apparent and he can't write for child characters that act some what like kids to save his ass (especially cream got hit hard by this).
Also that penders didn't even bother to play the game or at least to get all the details of them is to me pretty much Unacceptable
because the writer for star trek 2 did watch the entire series before he wrote the movie to be well aware of all the imported points of it and this extended research should be the standard in my opinion (hell even the long time writer for Sonic the comic (with I hate) actually played the games (with is also why super sonic is so insane in sonic the comic it was his interpretation of how super sonic plays that lead him to make the character of him just as all over the place as he plays in the games)Β

Teletubbies... *gag* Now I am certain there are no angels in this scenario. All the more reason that when something gives and this all falls apart, someone needs to be on the ready to collect the pieces and refashion them into a True Sapphire Revival of Sonic.

Heck yeah I'd still support him. I didn't even know Flynn used to be a fanfic writer until about a year after I became really invested in the comics- all I knew about the guy is that before he took over, character arcs were a mess, the plot convoluted, and the dialogue sloppy. Flynn helped fix most of that. Maybe it's due to his fanboy background, but the man has serious skills. He is an excellent comic writer, fanboy or not.

I didn't even knew he writed fanfiction: I like him because, unlike Penders he doesn't turn charaters into assholes, he redeemed some charaters Penders and Bollers almost ruined ( Sonic, that apologized to Tails for dating Fiona; Sally, that realized that she was wrong about slapping Sonic,apologized to him and came back to the team, instead of being a dumb bimbo, like Penders and Bollers turned her; Geoffrey,that became actually likable!) and stopped the comics from turning into a Sonic version of Beautiful!

I respect both writers and i understand and respect that Penders should have an opportunity to do his thing.
originally i thought that (ventrix?) say the teletubies, i though he was using it as an analogy. that as an analogy, but to be fair and neutral, Isn't that does you're argument have to do with something a person has done in the past and has never appeared in the comics, and besides just about everyone would have made some cringeworthy or embarrassing fan-fiction at one time or another?

I don't respect him because he's untalented. I never read his fan fictions and only know what he wrote for the comic which has been miserably crap. Penders may have some things to complain about and Bollers wasn't that great but dammit they had better respect for things rather than just shock drama and gaining praise for referencing older obscure moments from back in the older issues.

Nope.
