               Interim Report on the status of the ongoing
               investigation into the disappearance of
               Dr. Gwendolyn Osgood, Director of the
               Seton (Iowa) Child Development & Dream
               Research Center.

ONE YEAR LATER:

Current Status of Dr. Gwendolyn Osgood:
Still officially designated Missing Without a Trace.  A worldwide manhunt involving the coordinated police powers and resources of nearly every country on earth (including complete global cybernet networking & retrieval sweep) has produced not so much as a rumor to any possible sightings of or contacts with the Doctor.

Unofficially, there has been only one dubious "contact".  (More about which to follow as an attachment to this report.)

Current Status of Larissa Lennox and Timothy Gardner (both now 13 years old):
The two "disappeared" children who "reappeared" a month after the initial incident are, as they were upon their reappearance, completely healthy and happy [reports of medical doctors and child psychologists attached] and doing remarkably well in school [report cards, teacher assessments, etc, attached].
Larissa, who was always talented as a sketch artist and painter is now also excelling in all her other academics and has become a real "school leader" looked up to by the other students.  Timothy is the first high school freshman attending Seton Central to ever be elected President of the Student Council.

Current Status of the Investigation:
The two children, Larissa and Timothy, being the only link to the missing Dr. Osgood, has presented the OSI and this investigator with a most delicate situation and vexing conundrum:  How to utilize the only resource we have (the two children) without negatively impacting their now perfectly normal lives.  We are convinced that it is only through probing the psyches of these two subjects that we might find clues as to where Dr. Gwendolyn Osgood "went".  The respective parents of both children are understandably unnerved and upset at any suggestion of any further "deep psychic probing" being again applied to their kids. The limited interviewing done by psychologists and psychic investigators linked with this Office has been sporadically approved by the parents only because of their ongoing deep concern for the welfare of Dr. Osgood, whom they considered a beloved friend of both the children and themselves.  We have been somewhat successful in periodically "guilting" them into allowing additional interviews. But never allowed involving anything as sophisticated as The Gear[***], which we would like (with the Director's approval) to subject the children to in a setting far more controlled than the informal office setting of Dr. Osgood's research facility that so tragically blew up on the night of the incident.  So far, the parents have remained unmoved in their refusal to allow any "invasive or applied mechanical or computerized apparatuses" (their lawyers' restraining order wording) to be strapped to their children's heads at this time, as the parents are still somewhat "shell-shocked" from the original disaster.

Current Leads in the Investigation:
On behalf of all my associated investigators and myself, it is my sad duty to report that in regards to this disappearance: we are completely stymied.  We have exhausted all our investigative practices, exhausted all of our resources, and thoroughly exhausted ourselves in the hunt for Dr. Osgood.  At this point we are quite willing to sign off on "Spontaneous Human Combustion" as a final edict as likely as any other.  Unless we are allowed the one extreme measure noted above, we would suggest that this investigation be officially closed, as much as that designation pains all of us who have invested so much of our time and so much of ourselves in finding Gwen Osgood.  This investigation now has the feel of a death in our family – with no real closure.

We seek the guidance of the Director in how to proceed at this time.

Summary of the one (dubious) possible sighting (contact?) with Dr. Osgood:

(This summary is submitted in the interests of absolute thoroughness in the complete reporting of this investigation.  The "contact" and the subject of this contact have been exhaustively investigated and found to be utterly worthless, pointless and without any merit or value as to anything whatsoever.)

The subject [Lucy Lubinowitz, a.k.a. "Madame Serenna"] came to the attention of this investigation when she was reported to us by the parents of Larissa and Timothy to be trying to make contact with the children.  Upon detainment and interview, she admitted to being a charlatan "psychic" who preyed upon the relatives of missing persons, claiming to have had psychic visions revealing the whereabouts of their missing loved ones – which she would, if given a generous "donation", share with the distraught family & friends.  She quite freely admitted to being a fraud, a fake and a really bad person and formally stated she would even assist the courts in prosecuting her for her past crimes.

Lubinowitz("Serenna") claimed she was divulging all this to us because she was so frightened by having a first "actual" vision in all her years of being a hoaxtress.  She claimed this "real" vision was of Dr. Osgood riding a swift bay mare horse, but terrified and fleeing for her life from something chasing her – and crying out for Larissa and Timothy to come to her rescue.  She claims she then had a series of "real" psychic premonitions that unless she found Larissa and Timothy and transmitted the message that "Dr. Gwen needs you," she would be punished by some horrible punishment far surpassing any amount of jail-time she might suffer for her years of conning innocent vulnerable people.

Obviously, this person was never allowed to contact & scare the children.

Because she knew so many classified details about the F09T case, we held her at length and submitted her to intense interrogation and even hypnotic probing.  She continued to claim no special means of having obtained enough secrets about F09T to have created this, obviously her latest and grandest hoax.  But it was then discovered that she had several relatives and knew others who had been at one time or another involved with or employed by (or sought by!) the CIA, the FBI, the NSA and other (leaky) official U.S. Government agencies.

It is the finding of this investigation, and of me personally, that this thoroughly scummy individual, while being quite brilliant in her own evil and duplicitous way, learned enough from her inside sources to concoct her superficially believable tale of a "vision" of Dr. Osgood in peril. This was simply to be her career crowning con of a lifetime.  No credence should be given to and no further investigation should be wasted on this faker's despicable (detouring!) role in this case.

"Serenna" is currently in the hands of Homeland Security and in the process of being deported to her land of birth (if that can ever be ascertained) or to any place far, far away that can be begged or bribed into taking her.
