this one is brilliant designing. now lets break it down. im sure the work you put into it deserves that .

1. the head design is very good . giving the eye a 360 degree feild of view . and retracting into its body for added protection . the only problem with this design is the view is limited. it will have lots of overhead blind spots and it cannot look up unless the eye itself has a moving mechanism.

2.the torso has the same advantage and drawback as the head. it can move a full 360 degree but cannot bend.

3/. the arms and legs. are able to move in all directions vey efficiantly only problem i have is it seems that it can only be moved manually , it lacks and hydrolic or motor system to move them . with the exception of the claws and hips.

4.the feet gives good balance.

1.) This is one of my first 3D mecha which is why it looks so basic, but I have to admit I still like it, it has a cumbersome steampunkish feel to me. I kind of like the 360 degree sight and the fact that it can retract for defence, but you are right it would be very open to attacks from above. Rather than design a mechanism for the visual sensor to move up and down maybe I could have put a second sensor in the centre at the top so that it contstantly took intomation from above as well as on the horizontal plane.

2.) You are right in its inability to bend at the waist, which is a shame and is something i would fix If I revisited this mech. As it stands it can bend from its hips if it really needed to but would not be able to if moving. In my head this mech would walk in a clumsy mannor its upper torso with its heavy arms spinning on its axis knocking down other mecha or fortifications.

3.) Joints i think are by far the hardest part to get right on a mecha, esspecially at the hips. Most mecha you see go with ball in socket joints (including some of my newer mecha) that wouldnt wouldnt be easy to impliment in real life. The mecha that i have seen attempt to use hydraulics are either way to small to support the weight or would be way to slow. For this particular mech I would suggest that since there is not scale that it is assumed that those joints are large enough to house high torque electric motors.

4.) I love the feet lol *stomp* stomp*

Very Nice. The toon shading looks good, I would like to see this one animated. Some questions..:
What did you make it in? Which renderer did you use?

Hi mate, all of the models you see so far are done in a program called sketchup (www.sketchup.com) its really designed for architecture etc, but ive found i can draw mecha in it that im quite happy with at the second. The renderer is built in to sketchup. Yeah id love to animate it, i see this a big lumbering machine, and would like to see it moving but animating further than making a gif image is a little beyond me at the moment, but hang on, ill get there in the end!

Sounds good. I've never heard of this software before, but it seems that you can get some great pictures. But doesn't such programs have an in-build animation tool? But maybe is it the movement of your charater that could cause the most problems in an achitecturial application. I wish you good luck if you try to animate the robot, and please inform me if so.

Thanks for the interest Divo, As of yet sketchup doesnt have animation features, but maybe in future versions, i can only hope! Im thinking of teaching myself a more advanced pro like lightwave but it seems like a mission! I do have a couple of animated gifs based on some of my mecha, ill try to get them uploaded over the next couple of days for you to see.

Thanks
