TED-MX In reply to Aleayo [2015-06-07 08:23:45 +0000 UTC]

Hey Aleayo, thank you so much for these words. I just noticed a few weeks ago that I somehow kept myself for months under mainstream-look cage. Flashy girls, studio lights, extremely easy to read, standard pose, some generic magic -- I think we should aim for deeper emotion, seek to make original, deeper art.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aleayo In reply to TED-MX [2015-06-08 02:02:46 +0000 UTC]

We're on the same page here (even if you're in the art business and me it's a hobby)
Original, yes, maybe harder, but strong personal interest we gotta aim for (and definitely not only to enjoy viewers)

But this is what exactly bugs me/ block me...
Everything I think (or I imagine doing) seems too ambitious too long to finish

This pirate is exactly what you talk about, and I salute you, you did it!!
Continue! I wanna see more! More of the true you?
Β

TED-MX In reply to Aleayo [2015-06-08 10:11:33 +0000 UTC]

So glad we both do understand that point clearly! To think of it a bit more wiser, aiming for that "deeper, less mainstream" expression is risky. Standard things are always easier to push to popularity, to sell, to give dividends from. Less straightforward things sometimes shoot but sometimes fail miserably, so we should really take that all into account

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aleayo In reply to TED-MX [2015-06-10 03:29:50 +0000 UTC]

When Art is a job, you have to make compromise, shoot for some mainstream, etc. it's normal and the goal is to bring a bit of our special originality while serving the client (or boss)

But as a hobby, or for self-development / personal fulfillment, we should not restrain our originality because the result is weird and unpopular. But harsh truth is : it's easy, after a while using this site (or any social site), to fall for the goal of popularity.

The artists I see here, that have some popularity while being very originals maintain a constant & steady stream of art, always in their unique style (slowly tweaking it) and/or post a ton of art pieces. I mean : the quantity of "proofs" of our originality is the key to gain a share in popularity. Exploring different styles, or while searching for a comfortable style or craft will not attract viewers. Friends yes, but not average joe.

TED-MX In reply to Aleayo [2015-06-10 09:38:44 +0000 UTC]

Wow, these are very fresh and valuable conclusions!

If I am to strive for popularity alone, I should ship art faster. I definitely can do that, but artpieces may be much less rendered (finished) than they are now, and sometimes may have hidden fundamental errors (crooked placement of general masses, some anatomy distortions). There is also an issue of combining that with applying for a work -- clients in general always value a lot finished type of artpieces, and I will have no such artpieces easily accessible in my gallery that way (burden behind a lot of more rough, but original artpieces which I ship often).

Thank you so much for your argumented, solid ideas!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aleayo In reply to TED-MX [2015-06-10 21:09:18 +0000 UTC]

Interesting twists you introduce. Portfolio for clients is one thing, and self exploring or hobby&fun portfolio cannot easily combined... quick popularity-driven cute art VS slow high quality art.

May be two accounts?
or even two different sites completely?
(I mean.. why not get the benefit of both trends!!!)

Nice intelligent exchange we had here!

TED-MX In reply to Aleayo [2015-06-10 21:18:01 +0000 UTC]

You can't be more right here! But, actually , that is solved by having a journal entry with slow quality works, and also not letting fast sketchy artworks into "Featured" artworking category -- so when person clicks on the "Gallery" link, he sees only selected artworks.. Works nice for me!
