I guess the only words I have to say about this piece
I used in an argument against another critical deviant who thought this piece didn't "capture the craziness and busyness of a city"
""but sometimes the calmness of a chaotic setting can be more intriguing
what would be non peacefull and non balanced in a city setting?
people fighting on the street, a graffiti artist at work...?
what i like about this photo is that it holds the secrets of the city
i can imagine what was happening on this street
who was smoking this cigarette
how it got between the cracks
that is what makes this photo unique
because a photo of the "crazy" city might not translate so well in a picture
there are some emotions, feelings, energies, that when captured through a lense are severly diminished in the lucritive interest that it would naturally spark
just my opinion
""
love this pic

Congrats on the DDF. Cigarette butts are super duper bad for the enviroment. If any of your friends smoke, punch them in the stomach. Blue and red bricks are scary.

I wish bricks were blue instead of read. That would rock.
But yeah. I'll have to punch of lot of friends in the stomach. I don't think I'll have many friends left.
Thanks, Lane.

Great shot. But i don't like the cropping on this - the lighter part on the bottom ist really disturbing me - although a very good idea

THat's great. I guess to me it's symbolis life, sometimes people fall through the cracks, I feel like i've fallen through sometimes. Plus, when do you not see cigarettes all over the ground. I think it's good. -Nicole-

It's not the content that important people. Yes, it's a cigg butt in a crack, big deal. We see lots of them everyday. It's how the shot is put together, analize the bizzar perspective for example. Or maybe the fact it's butted out, yet it's laying on the street. Who butts their smoke out before tossing it?
Maybe it's just special looking because the triangles in the brick work don't line up.
At any rate, it's obviously popular cause alot of people 'see the art' if you will... It's not my taste really, but why am I commenting then?
Good work with the angle.

OH and (sorry about this, i'm probably really pissing you off at this point) another way to solve the weird big-to-small thing would be to crop about three hundred pixels off the bottom and just leave the top half, although that would take the main subject (the butt) out of it...if the butt was the thing you wanted the most focus on (as i suspect, from the title), then ignore me, but if you were focused more on the wide view...yeah, s'just a suggestion. (and once again--sorry about the double post.)

this is beautiful, although you've heard that a trillion times already. x
critique-wise, and this is just my opinion (and a virtually impossible shot to create without digging a hole in the ground), i think it'd look even more interesting if the camera was even lower...you know? so it'd be like looking over a table top with your eyes level to it? i don't know quite how to explain myself, but as it is the perspective looks a little...i don't know a word for it...forced?, to me, because it's a high angle that seems to want to be a headon shot. (i've been in video production class too long...) but yeah, like i said, it'd be nearly an impossible shot to do without destroying the pavement (which isn't, i think, a good idea) but then one would be able to see the butt head on and, oh, i dunno, i just think it might be interesting.
ALSO (if you're not already too sick with reading my babbling) you might try cropping off a bit of the top (like a hundred or so pixels, maybe), just to see how it looks--the switch from larger tiles to smaller tiles is pretty jarring to see, although the wide perspective is, in itself, interesting. i dunno, i really think it'd be cool if the camera was lower down (as mentioned before), because then the fade into the distance would still be awesome and the jarringness would be solved. arrgh, my critiques are never very helpful, i always suggest impossible things...but you DID specify that "advanced critique" was the way to go, so i gave it my best shot.
i hope you garner something out of my rambling, at least--and, as stated before, i think this is really really great. the colours are just...wow. <3

Interesting and original shot Nice focus on the shot but I think it's just a little too dark still.. maybe having a play with the contrast may help. Also that white strip at the bottom (mortar or whatever it is) is slightly distracting so I'd also consider cropping it a little more. Other than that tho, lovely photo. Congrats on the DD

I love the two different colored tile, and the cigarette stock in the crack...
You have no idea how this photo depicts my mood during work, every time get out to clean up the sidewalk, every cigarette thrown away ends up between the crack and I end up cleaning up the mess. Nasty stuff after the rain...
From now on, to lighten up my feeling, I shall remember this image every time I come across the cigarette....
