Description
Your reading was cut short. You froze and slowly teared your gaze away from the book in front of you when you felt someone's warm breath on the back of your neck. You didn't even need to turn to know whom it was. That was obvious.You decided not to pay him any attention and returned your book albeit the fact that the constant interruptions were getting annoying. They'd been going on for months. You were just waiting impatiently for the words to start coming out of his ignorant mouth.
"Do you like heavy metal? Because I can teach you how to scream." This happened every day. Although each one was different. Tony had a tendency to flirt with you every single freaking day. All the while he used unoriginal, disgusting pick-up lines.
And this one was the last straw. You were fed up. Fed up to the bone that he would not shut that trap of his. "Tony." You stated simply, almost slamming your book closed completely forgetting the bookmark on the coffee table.
The brunet's head perked up, usually you stayed silent and didn't reply. Somehow, this time, he knew it would be different. "Yes Darling?" He asked with a slight smirk.
You spun around to face him and frowned, glaring at him for a second or two. "If I agree to go on one date with you... And that's a big 'if'!" You paused. "Will you stop flirting with me once and for all?"
His face immediately lit up with a huge grin, not even answering your question, he replied. "Sure thing, Doll-face." And with a wink he left the room.
You sighed in annoyance and sought your way to the kitchen in search of a snack. Although you had doubts that Tony would stop it was worth a shot right? Or maybe that was a bad idea? Oh God that was a bad idea. He's never going to stop.
~~~~~
You were midst washing your hair in the shower and you couldn't stop thinking about what Tony had planned. Knowing him it would be someplace formal and fancy, which you hated. They were always too crowded and filled with snobbish rich kids. I mean, he didn't even give you a date and time, how were you supposed to know when you were going? It could be next week or it could be months from now!
You exhaled a breath you had no idea you were holding as you exited the shower, wrapping yourself in a towel. Drying your hair, you entered your bedroom. You were surprised to say the least when you found a long, silky, red, dress just dripping with colour laid out neatly on your bed. There wasn't a note or anything, just a dress. And some matching red heels placed at the door of your bedroom.
"Uhh... JARVIS? Has Tony been in my room?" You asked hesitantly.
"Yes Miss (L/N), I apologise for not informing you sooner but Mr Stark hacked into my mainframe." You giggled a little and shook your head. Typical Tony. Well at least now you knew the date was going to be today. Although it would have been nice to have been informed earlier.
You were right though, about him picking someplace fancy, why else would he choose for you to wear that dress. As much as you hated dresses you'd have to wear it. Obviously Tony had bought it just for this occasion, it would have been a little strange if he already owned it.
You reluctantly changed into the dress and did up your hair and make-up. Bright red lipstick and eyeliner, you liked to keep things simple yet you didn't want to look like you hadn't made any effort at all.
You scowled at the heels and instead grabbed a pair of red converse. Hey the dress was long enough to hide them anyway so why not? It's not like he'd notice. Plus you had a bad history with high-heels. You checked yourself in the mirror, a little embarrassed at your appearance, you couldn't remember a time you'd ever dressed up like this.
"Hey, JARVIS? Did Tony happen to mention where we were going?" You questioned, sitting down on the bed unsure of what you were supposed to do.
"He instructed me to tell you that Happy is waiting in the reception to drive you to your location." He replied in his monotonous yet somehow still classy voice.
I should have guessed that Tony would be too lazy to take me himself.
You started to make your way to the elevator when you rounded a corner and almost crashed to the floor, bumping into someone as he caught you just in time.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking where I wa- (Y/N)? What are you wearing?s" He took in your appearance with a hearty chuckle. "Going somewhere nice? With someone special?" Asked the super-soldier with a suggestive grin.
You shrugged with a sigh. "I made a deal with Tony... And now I have to go on a date with him."
Steve shared a look of sympathy with you before brightening up with a smile. "Well you look beautiful, he's a lucky guy." You nodded a 'thanks' with a slight red colour on your cheeks as Steve walked away.
At least you felt a little better about your appearance now.
Entering the reception, you met with Happy and you both climbed into the car, you decided to make small talk with him as you had no idea how long it would take to get to your location.
~~~~~~
It didn't take as long as you were expecting, it only happened to be a short drive.
"We're here." Happy informed you, Β it was dark outside so you couldn't really see where 'here' was. The tinted windows didn't help either. There weren't any lights anywhere though which peaked your curiosity. Stepping out of the car you got a better view, you were in the middle of nowhere. There were quite a few trees dotted around but other than that and the odd few plants there were no signs of life whatsoever.
"Uhh... Are you sure we're in the right place?" You turned to ask Happy. Crap. He was going to murder you. Right here, right now, That's what this is. A murder-kidnapping. You were dead.
"Positive." He responded with a mischievous grin before driving off. If this was one of Tony's practical jokes you swore to God you were going to kill him if you made it back alive.
You frowned. How on Earth did he expect you to get home? Your dress had no pockets and you didn't bring a bag so you left your phone back at the tower. With a sigh of disappointment, you decided to examine your surroundings further. Which wasn't easy due to the dark blanket of space that covered the sky with only a few sparse, polished stitches that stretched across it, one delicate and fragile button decorating the centre.
It was only then that you noticed the small path waving off through the trees and you decided to follow it. Maybe it'll lead to a road?
After chasing the trail for a few minutes you came to a clearing, it wasn't big but it wasn't small either... There was a faint light emitting from it but before you could even come close you froze.
"Hello."
Jumping at the sudden voice that seemed to appear from nowhere, your eyes widened and you spun around to encounter the stranger.
"Tony?" You sounded much more surprised than you should have. Taking a good look at his appearance you saw that he was wearing an unbuttoned black suit with a white dress shirt. The red tie he wore matched the dress he had bought you.
He let out a low chuckle. "In the flesh, I mean you weren't exactly expecting Bruce were you?"
"What are we doing in the middle of the woods? I thought Happy left me for dead." After finishing your sentence you pouted at the man to which he nodded in the direction behind you with an eyebrow raised. Inclined to know what he was motioning toward, you twisted your body around.
Inside the clearing was a small red and white checkered blanket with two plates, glasses, a bottle of wine and a basket rested carefully on top. Candles lit up the clearing creating the most natural looking mood-lighting, the leaves of the trees were all different shades of autumn, red, yellow and orange. The clearing also overlooked small cliff, to which the blanket was a safe distance away from but you could see the small rectangular lights coming from individual rooms that lit up across the city. The way they flickered on and off reminded you of fireflies.
You supposed he did know what you liked. He'd picked one of the most remote places that he could've, far away from anyone interrupting or intruding. All along you thought he was an inconsiderate twat but this gave you a whole new view of him. He looked different in your eyes now. He actually seemed like he was desperate, dependent on you now that you thought about it. The amount of times he'd flirted with you annoyed you to no end but you gathered now that he was just as ticked off by your persistence.
"You look gorgeous." He commented on your appearance, snapping you out of your daze. Β
In complete and utter amazement your eyes met with the brunet's. "Tony... I-I didn't know you could be so..." You were lost for words, you'd only ever seen a setting like this in the movies, it looked so unreal.
"Romantic?" He finished for you with a smirk. "As long as you don't go blabbing your mouth to Spandex about it, sure. Do you want to eat?" He pranced over to the food, beginning to pour the wine.
You nodded with a sincere smile and followed him. You hadn't even thought about eating yet and you were starving.
"So what's with the fancy clothes then?"
"It wouldn't have been much of a surprise if I'd asked you to come in hiking boots now would it?"
~~~~~
The two of you sat and chatted away for what felt like minutes. It was only when in the corner of your eye you spotted the sunrise that you realised you'd been running your mouth for hours. You yawned, a sudden wave of tiredness drowning you.
"I think we should probably head back, don't you?" Tony inquired and you sleepily nodded. He pulled out his phone and texted Happy before rising from his place on the blanket.
You struggled to stand as Tony held out his hand to help you up. You muttered a 'thank you' and he offered to carry you. Too tired to refuse, he picked you up bridal-style and headed down the path.
"I love you, you know?" He gazed at your form, you did nothing but snuggle further into him, unable to comprehend what he was saying. Being awake for twenty-four hours was not good for your health. Your drowsiness finally took over and put you to sleep. Tony gently kissed your forehead and placed you into the car.
"Sweet dreams."
