Description Photoshop colored version of this line art from last week:

Zuckuss, Jerry the Jawa (OC), Bossk, Aurra Sing and Boba Fett getting ready to pull a job in the cold. Bossk is teasing Jerry about his heart patterned scarf but Jawas are practical (a scarf is a scarf). Jerry doesn't understand basic and is just cranky because he hates the cold. Aurra is sporting her Hoth attire from her EU comic in The Bounty Hunter Series. Boba is trying to look tough but it's hard when you have the galaxy's most ruthless assassin fussing over you all mommy like.

I love this! Jerry the Jawa is out right adorable (quick being a jerk, Bossk. Real men wear pink) and though I never pictured Aurra as a motherly figure, I can see her fussing over Boba in some situations. Well done with your color choice for Boba's snow clothes. Love how it eludes to his future armor. I didn't read Aurras' comic, but I do like blues on her. Bossk snow clothes make me think of some things my brother wore, I love these yellow pants. Makes me want to go snowboarding with bounty hunters! Great and wonderful work! XD

Cool Job! Yeah Aurra WAS looking out for Boba Fett and taking him under her wing...for a WHILE anyway until she just ABANDONED him in that one SW TCW episode!

Thanks! I still say she planned to go back for him at some point, see the teasers we got from the lost bounty hunter arc, but he learned a valuable lesson either way.

You fuzzed the lines a little!
I always love it when that's used. It helps it look like an animation cel xD
The softness you show in your coloring and lighting is something I want to try myself. Constantly sticking with "cel-shading" is great and all, but there's a definite charm to the softer approach.
This is easily my fave thing I've seen you do in a while. I can tell you put a lot of love in this one <3

I've had a lot of practice with dodge and burn. Oddly enough I think color matching on the Oekaki board has helped my eye. It just takes playing with the settings. The fuzzed lines are my own little trick that uses the line art capturing method we learned all those years ago in college.

I wanted to ask if the lack of texture bothers you at all or leaves it feeling less finished. I put a texture on Bossk in the previous colored pic I did of him, Aurra and Boba and while I think it works, it still screams Photoshop texture. I was going to play with it again for him and Zuckuss but decided not to. Thoughts?

I'd recommend duplicating the layer you'd texture and just lower the opacity. Make it super subtle or something.
I've no doubts you could make it work, but I'm not entirely sure it was needed in this case.

This looks abolsutely amazing in colour. Jerry's scarf really stands out, and Zuckuss looks even more 'All Business' than in the line drawing.

Boba and Aurra though. Priceless. I too would like a nice warm coat like Boba's, though not at the cost of having to work for Aurra.

Thanks so much! I'm really happy with how it came out!

Honestly I ship Aurra and Boba in a mother and son relationship probably a lot more than most fans. As awful as she is, I don't believe they showed us the one little mother like scolding scene for nothing. There's also a lot that they didn't show. Regardless, working for her can be very unpleasant, especially when things don't go her way.

I think that Aurra's ideas about the appropriate raising children are half informed by her own utterly dysfunctional upbringing, and half by stuff she's seen in daytime holonet soaps. That is to say: brutal training in effective contract killing, Good. Underage drinking, Bad.

I agree with that completely, but I do like to think that she really does care about Boba and wants to see him succeed for some reason other than her own financial gain. I want there to be more, even if it's more along the lines of pride rather than motherly affection. I don't really take her abandoning him with the Jedi as a truly selfish act so much as it was her only tactical option to avoid capture. Though Boba's feelings would naturally go in that direction. She'd be in a lot more trouble than Boba if she was apprehended and in that situation she really couldn't do anything for him anyway. Running over Bossk with a speeder may have been a bit much though...

Ohhhh I love the colors and the way Bossk's skin turned out especially. Very well done!

Though the door in the background looks off a tiny bit. I think it's the double perspective thingies and that the top lines just go flush with the door frame with no angles. I think just having it on only the left side would make it look more 3 dimensional.

Thanks! The blush on Bossk was an experiment, I'm glad it worked out!

I see what you're saying about the 3D thing. I was going for a paneled door frame, rather than the depth of an open door. Maybe adding a black stroke to the layer will help. Thanks for pointing that out!

ScottDdraws In reply to TerribleToadQueen [2015-03-15 16:14:20 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhh okay! Yeah a black stroke could show depth and separation of the smaller panels on the over all door!!!

Regardless the coloring job is still fantastic!
