Description
The Dark Eldar Razorwing Jetfighter. Standing in for the Void Raven Bomber till Games Workshop gets off their butt and make the model for us.Bought this as a Christmas gift this december for a friend. Then painted it for them as well! It's in her colors, black and purple.
I really like how this model came out. It was quick, easy and came out amazing looking. First few experiments with edging, I think I liked it (seen as I've been doing it on everything now!

I've been waiting for ages for them to make a model for the Void Raven Bomber now -_- Some people seem to say it's not going to happen for some reason...
Great paint job, really clean and a nice colour scheme ^^

It will happen, like with the Tyranid models that were never released. They released them rather recently, all new models. Too bad the Tyranids are so underpowers and easy to kill that no one really plays them anymore...
I really liked painting this model. It was a simple model to assemble, and the colors just fit where I needed/wanted them to go. Much better than, say, a drop pod/stormraven/landraider I've done before...

Actually I've barely seen anyone play tyranids o.o Is that the reason why?
It's probably just the Dark Eldar style in general. It's more organic and fluid than say a landraider. Which is essentially a box on wheels. A damn formidable box though!

Most people might pick them up at first, but quickly tend to drop them as they are massively underpowered. So if you don't see people play them, that's why. Their problem is they have no armor. All they have is infantry and monstrous creatures. They don't have much shooting, so the whole time they are trying to get close to you, you can shoot them right on up. All you need to kill the big guys are heavy weapons, a lot of shots or poison weapons. Enough bolter rounds into a monstrous creature and it will drop, where as most vehicles the bolters can't even hurt.
The "box on wheels" was a bigger pain to assemble than the Dark Eldar Razorwing. The Razorwing just fit together nicely. Landraider has those doors, hinges, inside, gunmounts and a lot of other things. And don't even get me talking about the Stormraven. A Landraider wasn't bad, but the Stormraven was a pain to make.

Eech, when you describe them like that they do sound kinda underpowered They're supposed to be a swarm army though aren't they? I mean surely their numbers alone should be able to overwhelm you. Maybe.
I can imagine the Stormraven being a pain tbh xD But they look SO IMPRESSIVE! It may just be worth it...

They can be, but if your opponent sets up right, I can stop them in their tracks. Imperial Guard, Large Blast Templates clean out swaths of them. Space Marines have Sternguard Veterans with +2 poison shots, the Vindicator Large Blast, and are good in the assault. Tau have Hammerheads, burst cannons and everything is a S 5 weapon. Necrons can shoot them to death for the most part... Just shoot them before they can get to you and you can easily win. In lower point matches they can overwhelm you if you aren't careful/because you can't take the heavier weapons/outnumber you (depending upon your army).
They are worth he work and do look great when finished, but they are still a huge pain to work on. When you are done with the body, your ready to be finished, and still have weapons and turrets to finish up... it's a lot of work.

Hmm, sounds like if you play Tyranids you should only carry around a small numeber of points with you. "What? Oh, I've only got 500 points sorry. I'll be forced to outnumber and crush you it looks like..."
I don't think I'd like to paint a Landraider. I might get too tired/lazy after finishing the body.

Most people wont play that low, and lets face it, Space Marines really can't play that low.
It's a large project, but Landraiders aren't too bad. Stormravens are the ones you should look out for. Those things are more pushing than Landraiders. Landraiders are a little more than working on a Rhino.

Yeah I suppose you're right, but we get quite a few 750 games in our group. And some people team up with 500 each... if that counts
In fairness Stormravens are HUGE D:

I find that Warhammer doesn't start to be good till 1000 points minimum. And a good game (where most codexes really start to show their prowess and armies start to really be customizable) isn't until 1500 points. Most of my armies run best at 1500 points, but run well at 1000 points. I don't even write up lists for under a 1000 points...
Yes. Yes they are. Their hull is the size of a Rhino, but with the wings they are as big as a Landraider. Surface area (the area you technically paint) is much bigger than the Landraider is.

Yeah, armies definitely run best at higher points and let you utilise most of the army's specific advantages/tech. But I do like small games... if only because I think more on how to use each piece to the most. In big games I often just throw units away carelessly because I've got plenty more

I'm one who "waste not, want not". I try to save as much damage from my squads as I can. I might throw one into the fray to protect others, but I try to have every action I take on the board to always be advancing my goal. Like in a recent game of 2000 points, Blood Angels vs Ork, I had a goal. Obviously I'm not talking about just winning and etc. He had Gazgould(?) on the field. I knew no one in my army could handle that one model except for the Vanguards. Gaz was in a squad of Nobs, so assaulting him head on with his squad was going to be dificult at best, and shooting wasn't going to be fast enough. I actually ran my Vanguard squad into the nobs, bypassed the nobs and had every vanguard in the squad in base contact with Gaz. From there, I literally had every wound I could heading at Gaz, ignoring the nobs. If I lost the Vanguard taking out Gaz, the rest of my army could handle the nobs.
In the end, I wiped out Gaz, made the Nobs run, and brought the fight to a draw or win for me. (I gave opponent benefit of calling it a draw or close defeat.) My goal was to win, but I saw Gaz needed to die if I stood a chance. So my secondary goal was to kill Gaz.
As stated, got to know when to call a gambit and charge, and when to hold back a moment and hide. (Reminds me of a match with Dark Eldar. The other person thought he would win, but I did the unexpected and backed up out of his range and fired. Most other people would have closed in, and if I head, I would have lost.)

Sounds like you pulled that off nicely tbh, all models in base contact with Gaz I often make the mistake of realising too late in a game that there's a unit on the field I could've only taken down with certain units... units that have at this point been wiped out >.<

That was the photo perfect, epic tale worthy event that happened in that game. It isn't often that you can pick out an independent character in a squad like that. Sad part is, the Vanguard squad cost less than Gaz did. But my gambit paid off and I was able to get him, with few losses to my squad so I could go after those nobs next time.
You need to realize what your mission objective is in sight at all times, and yet be able to set up quick goals and target priorities to determine where your fire is best spent. Like, my brother has 15 point troops in his gray knight army. Should I shoot at a three man squad who are worth 15 points and can get maybe 3-6 shots at BS 3, or go after those pergation that can clean up squads in a single turn? Shooting at the 15 point squad would be a waste, unless they are taking an objective point, your squad can't be shot at by the pergation this turn, and can take that objective this turn if they kill the 15 point squad. Then maybe I'll shoot at them... maybe...
Also, my Vanguard are my trump card. I try to make sure that they have a target to go for that no one else in the army can handle. It's their job. The do it well.
