Tetiel In reply to ??? [2012-12-02 22:50:50 +0000 UTC]

My apologies about the late response. It's been a while since I made this drawing, but one of the things I looked at was the way Naoko Takeuchi did her outfit. In the manga, her skirt looked less like a pleated skirt and more like a layered tutu so I looked at some references for that and tried to copy the way the curves worked.

Something like this may help out:
[link]

I mean, obviously not quite like that since it's not exactly right, but look at the way the ruffles are defined. It takes practice. I like to wear some ruffly skirts myself on a regular basis, so I've gotten a good feel on how they look.

No worries, thank you for replying. That is actually a good observation, I didn't notice that before. Pretty smart idea to look at tutu references thank you!

oh my the patience you must have xD expecially in drawing thw wand in the lineart !XD
But it totaslly worth it!! I love it*____*
just a question: how did you do the white final glow around her? doing it around the lineart or did you merge the layers before?

Tetiel In reply to BaBinA [2010-09-30 15:04:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh I went ctrl+A to select everything and then hid everything but the actual figure. Then went ctrl+shift+c which copies the current image. Like merging without actually merging. Then I pasted under the image. I locked transparency to make it white. I unlocked the layer and used gaussian blur. It sounds more complicated than it actually is

cosplayboots [2009-04-29 18:37:42 +0000 UTC]

i see..
from what i'm looking at you normall shade with a lighter color(not as thick)

and for darker shading you use a darker color and a thick brush.
am i getting on the right track?

cause i just LOVE.
how you shade skin.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to cosplayboots [2009-05-02 06:40:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh to be more specific I usually use a larger brush for the first shading. This is a somewhat darker shade than the base colour and I use a low opacity brush so I can blend well. Then I use the pen tool to do really dark shades where it should be the darkest. It's basically a combination of soft and cell shading. Kinda strange but it works for me

Awww...I love your Sailor moon works!! They are so adorable!! n__n

It certainly must have took you a really long time to create/color her. I'm just looking at the shadows and tones and it seems like no detail has been overlooked. I really think the blue lineart is a pretty touch. It made her glow more. XD

Tetiel In reply to Flarie-hanami [2009-03-20 17:25:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!! And yeah it basically took me all day from like... umm 10am taking a break for a couple hours and then until like 9 or 10 pm? That was just colouring so xD

Wow, how beautiful and colourful!~
I have one question, though. How did you do the bubbles? xD Anytime I try them, they look like flat circles that glow a little.^.^;

Anyway, thanks for posting it up!~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to PrimroseMoon [2009-03-20 17:15:18 +0000 UTC]

Haha I ummm... used a brush I can't remember which one I used though. Maybe search bubble brush?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PrimroseMoon In reply to Tetiel [2009-03-21 02:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Ah, it's a brush?
Aww, darnit! Brushes tend to be unhappy with my computer so I don't actually use them much.

Oh well, oh well.xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to PrimroseMoon [2009-03-21 03:21:04 +0000 UTC]

Ah, what's wrong with them? What program of photoshop are you running?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PrimroseMoon In reply to Tetiel [2009-03-21 04:55:36 +0000 UTC]

Cs3. It's not the photoshop that's the problem, it's the computer. It's very... old.n_n;

It frequently closes down prematurely and can't have too much up at once. Big shapes, filters and paintbrushes clutter up Photoshop and often make it close, you know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to PrimroseMoon [2009-03-21 16:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see! That's so weird! If it's so old especially I'm surprised you can even run CS3 xD I'll try to create the bubbles myself, but off the top of my head I can think of a couple ways. Use the shape tool to create a circle and stroke it, then fill it in with some sort of gradient using like ummm a really light either white or blue? I'll try it sometime o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PrimroseMoon In reply to Tetiel [2009-03-23 03:57:06 +0000 UTC]

It is. It's not like it's against all brushes and shapes because I still have quite a few. Just certain ones. It's a weird computer for sure.

Well thank you!~
It doesn't matter too much, I was just curious. n_n

mewski-chan [2009-03-20 09:01:35 +0000 UTC]

It's probably real easy and I'm stupid but how do you change the lineart colour?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tetiel In reply to mewski-chan [2009-03-20 17:14:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh I have my lineart on its own layer always so all I got to do is lock transparency on that layer and paint over it with blue ^_^
