*Major Spoiler Warning*As many of you know the season finale of Legend of Korra aired this morning and pretty much everyone's got a strong opinion on how good or bad it was. Personally I felt it was pretty good, good action sequences, great music, and some pretty dramatic moments. Although it was rather rushed, I think if they had added another episode or two they could have paced it much better and fleshed certain aspects out more. So all and all I'd give it a 4/5.
There are two reasons I decided to make this poster. The first being that this was an incredibly powerful scene, perhaps even the most powerful scene in my opinion.
But the second was I had originally been very disappointed in Tarrlok as a character. When I saw how his eyes reacted when Korra said he was just as bad as Amon in episode 8 I was expecting to find out that Amon or the Equalists had done something to him to give him a personal vendetta but when episode 9 came around I thought the creators had simply made him out to be the scumbag son of the scumbag father.
Turns out I was right about them having a past, it's just that it was much more than I could have imagined and Tarrlok really was more than he first appeared. So Kudos to Mike and Bryan for that.
I understand there's already bit of a debate going on as to whether or not Amon (and to a lesser extent Tarrlok) deserved to die. Personaly I wouldn't say they "deserved" to die so much as they "needed" to die. Because they were both too broken to function with any degree of normalcy.
Amon, though his motives were apparently truly altruistic his methods and power not only made him a dangerous madman but a powerful one at that. He was literally four thumb presses away from completing the Air Nomad genocide on top of all the other innocent people he had hurt, to top it all off the only bit of it he seemed to show any remorse over was what he did to Tarrlok.
As for Tarrlok the guilt he developed over his action combined with the knowledge that he had become like his father left him with such a strong feeling of self loathing I doubt he could live with himself. For him this was his way of redeeming himself while ensuring that no more lives would be ruined by the madness of his father's legacy.
Legend of Korra belongs to Nickelodean, Mike, and Bryan.
This is merely a simple tribute to a single scene in their excellent show

Wow, watching the whole comment tree descend I gotta agree completely with NarutoUchica07
I am 100% percent with you on your opinion on the ending, gotta admit, I was a bit shocked too when Nick allowed that to air on a "kids network" but after all its nothing worse than any of limbless/bloodless explosions kids see on "Avengers" whether the movie or the show.
I don't think its enough to "traumatize" any of them anyways
I think the ending was fitting, but I am at a cross, I think having Amon and Tarrlok survive might've been too cliche like how Azula always managed to gain the upper hand, until the VERY LAST EPISODE of the original series, its like Suki said when the original gang watched the play about them " they lost a lot", it became predictable, and I don't think either one of the creators wanted it to be that closely similar to the first series.
I think getting rid of Amon and Tarrlok will open up the series for some fresh new characters, good and bad, and hopefully less rushed and more thorough development of tension, instead of the fast paced stuff. Regardless, I thought it was a great ending to a great show and I don't think I would have it any other way.
Back to the orignal point, though, I loved this scene and I think the title was most befitting of the moment

It took me seeing the scene again for me to really feel it...The first time I was too shocked that Nick actually allowed that to happen on screen.

This scene got me. I cried, especially when Amon had tears in his eyes. I really started to feel for them--knew I could never bastardize Tarrlok again in my mind when the flashbacks started. God, they were both so broken. I agree it was a bit rushed for my liking, but for the time they had, I really like where they went with it. I kind of wish Amon would have sealed his own bending and they'd gone off to live together in a new place, peacefully, but still... one of the most powerful scenes ; ; I liked Tarrlok's character development and Amon's perfection crumbling.

I can understand why you'd be angry about his sudden. But think about it:
When the show 1st premiered there was no promise from Nickelodeon for a 2nd season. For all the creators knew, Nick would only green light them for one season and thats it.
I do feel that some things were a little rush but overall, it was a wonderful season finale.
On the subject of Amon's death: No doubt Amon was a wonderful antagonist to Korra and he definitely could of been spanned through to a 2nd season. But I think the way his demise was written out was quite beautiful, in a tragic sense.
He was created and brought up to be nothing more than a tool for his father's vengeance. Even after escaping his father, the damage was done and he and Tarrlock became exactly what Yukonne wanted them to be.
Whhile you might not think he deserved to die, i think it was more that he needed to die. He had comitted heinous acts against benders and people alike, following the exact same patter as his father by escaping afterwards. On the boat, I think Tarrlock realized they were to...shattered to exist in this world without bringing about discord. The pattern had constantly repeated itself so the only way to bring it to a complete stop was destroying themselves, ceasing their bloodline.
From the tear noatok shed, I'm certain he knew what was about to happened and had accepted his fate bc he knew it was the right thing to do.

You don't have to necessarily see it as poetic but as a slice-of-life situation or whatever. Besides how were they shoving it in your face?
