Description
Another go at a character I made up a while ago.JOHNNY MISSIONARY: SPACE HERO
All the characters in this thing have surnames taken from sexual positions.
When I first designed him he had a huge jaw and an upper body that wouldn't fit through any doorway. But I trimmed it all down and I think it's working better.
It's just a quickish sketch but I like how it turned out so I won't scrap it.
For now.

Well there's a very VERY strong Brannigan influence.
I'd love something that had a Brannigan type character set in an old timey science fiction universe. With those control panels that have levers and flashing lights and ray guns with antennae and radar dishes on them.
Thank a lot.

With a name like "Johnny Missionary" I would've drawn him with insane abs. His torso wouldn't have squat to do with the. . .er. . . position.
You did very well for just a quickish sketch.
And who are you kidding? You're too lazy to throw him into scraps even if you decided he should be there.
ZING!!

Oh he does have insane abs. He's insanely ripped all over.
But his spacesuit keeps it covered up. Except for the getting out of the bubble bath scenes.
TOO LAZY TO PUT IT IN SCRAPS? Where do you get off saying I'm too lazy...
...I'll finish that later.

I like my swooshy haired square jawed retro heroes. Reading a comment that just starts with SPACE HERO!!! has kept me laughing for about ten minutes.
Okay...so maybe I'm not that complicated after all.

Haha, very clever. It took me a minute to read your comment to get his name. How oblivious.
Anyway, nice job on the pose. I especially like his cleft chin, makes him look very hero-esque. Also, his hair remind me of cool whip, which I am now craving...
Anywho, I'd like to see what other characters you've got to go along with this. Maybe then I wont be so oblivious to the names... hopefully.

Well at least you got it.
I've done many pictures that have confused people permanently.
Thanks. I'm fascinated by how people would draw heroes in the 30s and 40s...with big chins and swooshy hair. So I always like to try and emulate that style somewhat in not-so-serious drawings.
I like how this turned out so I may do some of the other characters. Be good to redo them too and see if I can improve them.

Hey, I may not be all too bright in the head, but I can certainly understand a dirty joke when I see one. (Thus the reason for my shock at seeing me get the joke half a minute late.
)
Oh, those 1930's and 19040's Sci-fi/horror propaganda pictures are always fun too do. And definitely try not to do them in not-so-serious drawings. They would just look ultra ridiculous if you went all ΓΌber realistic on them. (Though, that can be fun in it's own right too...)
And do as many as you like, I'm certainly excited to see them.

I'm slow on stuff allllllllllll the time.
There's some major rewiring needed in my brain.
I definitely wouldn't try to make them serious...but I would at the same time. I think if you make them look REALLY serious then they can end up looking funnier.
But I can't seem to do serious drawings very often anyway so I don't think I need to worry about that.

I know! I haven't reached my forties like my mom has, and I'm already forgetting stuff like a morphine addict.
Oh yeah, kind of like those "realistically" drawn caricatures I see posted on dA sometimes. I have to say, those things are pretty freaky when you get up close to their faces... Like, they get all in-depth into the pores and stuff, it's scary. Still, it'd be a great way to rouse some reactions out of people, if you wanted to... Kind of like those "gross out" panels you see in cartoons made in the ninety's all the time.

The-G In reply to Frankenfrau [2009-11-05 11:36:55 +0000 UTC]
And if you're not into your forties then no-one believes that your memory is that bad.
I'm fascinated by how people can do those realistic caricatures. How they can make a cartoon look soooooooooo much like the person and yet do it in a way that's not lifelike at all.
Gross out panels? What's an example of that?

I was gonna add his sidekick into this drawing but I ran out of time.
His sidekick's name is Dora Sanchez.

lol missionary.
That's a sick position man. No one uses that, it's too horrible and gross and wrong. I'm so disappointed in you.
In other news, my god this guy's hair is epic. As is his Earthworm-Jim type pose.

The-G In reply to FastPuck [2009-10-09 20:48:26 +0000 UTC]
The missionary position is like water. If your thirsty you'd probably prefer to drink something more refreshing and with more flavour...but if there's nothing else around water will do the job.
Earthworm Jim! My god...there's something else I unintentionally ripped off. This is why I don't create characters. They just end up as bastardized versions of other stuff.

Does the missionary position owe you money or something?

SHUT UP I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT SKETCHES I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT--
OH BUT WOULD YOU JUST SHUT UP AND LOOK AT THE AWESOME SHADING THERE. WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?!???? Gyuuuuuuugh, it's so clean but it's still got this rough feel but at the same time EVERYTHING'S THE SAME VALUE. WTFFFFFFFFF.
also, kickass profile in general. Just, the angle of the body and the way you can just SEE exactly what kinda guy he is..... mrrrrrngh, so cool~ >w<

I didn't say you were crazy about sketches. Why would I say something like that? It's not like you've ever done anything to make me believe you are obsessed with sketchiness.
I do, however, think you are freaking insane about shading. Or maybe you're normal and I'M the crazy one for not getting it.
I always draw him in poses like that. It suits his ego.

I've seen ads for the Tek Jansen comic book but I don't have any idea what it's about. And while Stephen Colbert would often make me wet myself when he was on The Daily Show...I suspect that comic is another of those tie-ins that just don't capture the same thing.
It's nice to know I can draw studly hit worthy dudes.
