Thanks! Pretty sure I used a green filter here on the lens, to pull down the browns on the tree trunk and push the background greenery up into high key territory.

Yes that makes sense then! Ive been reading up on filters. If i was to shoot with a yellow filter on my 35mm lens during the daylight to increase contrast slightly shiuld i keep the uv on too? Or is that even possible with the b+w filters?

You can stack filters, but will start to lose image quality or affect contrast, and risk vignetting with wider lenses.

The UV filter isn't doing anything the yellow doesn't already, so stacking it isn't necessary.

Also, stacking different contrast control filters will not do anything useful.

If I have stacked filters it'll usually be a combo of one contrast filter (yellow, green, orange, red etc) and either an ND (because I want a longer exposure or wider aperture) or a polarizer. I don't think I've ever intentionally had more than 2 filters on a lens at one time.

This is great advice! I couldn't find much on the web about it and figured I'd ask you! I'm glad to know if I use a yellow filter I don't need to stack it on top of the UV! I plan on shooting with a yellow occasionally when I'm not doing street work

Yep.

Odd fact: every time I saw this tree it made me think of the Jewish menorah. Wrong number of "branches" but kind of the same basic shape.

It's like once you see it, you can't *not* see it!
